Driving so far..

hello all.
I passed my test a few years ago with the TA. got a class 1 licence.
I told the agencies I’ve little artic experience so not being put forward for them, just class 2 7.5 ton stuff
I’ve had no luck in getting any driving jobs to the extent of thinking about ditching the driving and try some other work.
I have been getting some 7.5 ton work but not much. the odd 1 day/week in every 2/3 months.
the work I have been getting is multidrop which for me personally nearly killed me handballing.

my questions are… is this normal when starting work… i.e not getting many driving jobs?

are there any other jobs I can look into that doesn’t involve handballing/heavy lifting etc…?
I’d do it but have old injuries that are aggravated with the handballing stuff.

forgot to mention I’m 50yo. so not sure if that puts employers off

Bulk tippers, walking floor, push outs doing grain, aggregates or waste/recycling & of course Tankers, powder or liquid.
All these don’t usually need a lot of hand balling.

Supermarkets are usually on dollies or cages. So they just need pushing/pulling & not exactly hand balling a thousand boxes.

Trunking/trailer swooping us usually pretty easy, as is Palletline (or any Hub work) Double Decker Hub work.

My advice - get your head around it, stop running yourself down and take control. You know the agencies come with their own bullsh*t so why are you being so considerate/honest with them. Get with other agencies, get some class 1 stuff and (carefully) practice a bit until you are confident - the same as we all had to do at some point. There is generally less hand-balling (or load interaction of any kind) with a 40 foot trailer- more often pallets.

Luck?? You want luck? Then buy some lottery tickets. Or make your own luck with attitude and application.

As for your last comment - that’s probably not far off the average age of drivers on here. I certainly wish I was 50 again - I didn’t pass my test until I was 60. There certainly is a problem with age, if you are under 25 or you create one in your own head.

Make your mind up; man or mouse (unless you are a woman, of course).

Thanks for that info. OnlyAlan, martinviking.

Re: being honest I didn’t want to drop myself in the sit lol. I’ve been round to another agency and i’ll take it from there.
I’ve certainly had some good… and some shi
tty clients too through agency work so building up a list as to which ones to avoid in future.

Thanks for the other work to look into.

Where do you fit on the driver cpc thing?
1 Passed car test before 1997 so need 35 hours of periodic dcpc before 09/09/2014
2 Passed car test after 1996 and passed initial dcpc
