Driving in Canada

Hi everyone, my partner and I are looking to go abroad to drive (I would have prefered australia or new zealand but he said thats a no go) he has found a company in new brunswick called elite driver training run by Allen Clowes who advertises that for a fee of £5500 gbp (plus however much flights out would be) for this fee Allen Clowes sorts out your immigration papers and work permits and puts us through our canadian driving tests then secures us a 1yr contract with a company called HGC transport hauling fridges as a double man team.

Has anybody heard of / had dealings with this company? or knows of any other double man positions overseas?

my partner has held his class 1 for over 10yrs and has done floats, fridges, and for the past 7yrs has done heavy haulage (mostly oil and gas equipment) he has his hiab, adr and 20t forklift licence.

Im new to this game held my licence for for 18months, i have only done a few agency shifts pulling a fridge for asda and been working for a general haulage company since oct 2010 pulling flats, curtains, extenders etc, and some wide loads. I have my cpc card and 20t forklift ticket but no adr or hiab.

any help would be very much appreciated
thanks Kerry

I’m sure someone will be along who does know of them.

It seems awfully expensive to Me, taking your class 1 in Canada as I recall is’nt no where near as expensive as over here, took mine in 2007 but had it paid for by my then employer, why not try some other companies in different parts of Canada theres plenty who’ll pay for all that & I’m sure as a team you’ll be on the top of some firms lists to get over for them.

Get using your search engine is my best advice before you fork out all that money…

Good luck with it anyway…

I’m based in NB and lived for two years in Woodstock. Let me be VERY CLEAR. Do NOT…I repeat NOT hand over your hard earned cash to this man. For the money he will take from you, you can go to any of the companies he will place you with and get the same thing direct for at least half the cost, if not less than that.

I worked at Donnelly Farms initially and most of us went direct with the company but two or three guys came via Alan Clowes and his EDTS outfit. They got nothing we didn’t, except their bank ballance was depleated several thousand Canadian Dollars more than ours were.

my advice is,STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS,phone or email some transport companies that have LMO’s,you may/will have to pay for your flight but should be reimbursed when you arrive and they WILL have to pay for your flight back aswell.

DO NOT GO THROUGH AN AGENCY ETC.

Vast- that geezer never got back to me so I am guessing he didn’t have a clean brief? Keep on Trucking ,All the best, H.

You do realise how team driving works on these fridge companies don’t you?
10 hours in the bed 10 hours driving, no stopping except for fuel/toilet, that’s 10 hrs on the wheel then 10 hrs in the bed whilst your partner drives for 10 hrs continuously for many days with NO SHUTDOWN!
Some companies do 10/10 then shut down for 4hrs, but most do 10hrs continuous, I hope you both get on well with each other.

You can also 5 and 5 which is how some of our teams choose to run,or 7 and 7,either way ■■■■■ big time for me.Some guys seem to like it,some don’t,I’m with the latter 100%.

I had to double up a few times on the Maroc run. Only once was the other driver a pain (Spanish O/D ) The rest of the time we all got on great except I don’t smoke & most of the lads do. If the cabs were bigger I would probably be happy to do it all the time -if I was the boss man?

Yeah we know its going to be 10 and 10 and we get on great so up for the challenge

There is also the option of running as a super single team, averaging about 800/900 miles per day with some companies.

PS Don’t let on about your lack of experience, it could stop you getting a foot in anywhere.

thanks Mickfly will keep that in mind, will post up how we are getting on sent some emails to companies tonight along with our cv’s struggling to get hold of anyone by phone if anybody knows of companies that are looking for double man teams and have a phone number please post up
cheers Kerry

Kerry, short sharp shock reality check required. You admit to Canada being your third choice destination, then ask for help finding work through a forum when it only takes a few minutes of research to find the multitude of companies positively recruiting team drivers here.
Try H&R in Lethbridge,if you’re desperate so are they :unamused: .
