Hoping someone can answer a query of mine, its not my hours in question but a fellow driver.
The query is this, he works nights, starts at roughly 8pm Sunday night, does approx 8hrs max driving per night and finishes at roughly 5am, 5 nights per week (Sunday to Thursday). Now, he has started working every other Friday night, finishing approx 5am Saturday morning, then back in, as far as I know, at 8pm Sunday, Sun til Thurs, then off til the Sunday, if you follow.
Now, the question is, can he do that? I’m not overly knowledgeable on hours, I know enough for my job, but had a read up on hours and his situation and got bit lost, so am hoping someone can help? The bit tha confused me was reducing the weekly rest, and compensating for it later, I can’t see how he can, but maybe thats just me?
the simple answer would be yes happy days for him
normal weekly rest 59 hours
reduced weekly rest 35 hours
he would pay back is reduced weekly rest when he takes normal weekly rest
just have to keep an eye on them and the driving hours as they would be 88 in a fortnight and can only 90

His normal weekly rest is 05:00 Friday to 20:00 Sunday which by my reckoning is 63 hours.
He has a reduced weekly rest period from 05:00 Saturday to 20:00 Sunday which by my reckoning is 39 hours every other week.
The reduced weekly rest period of 39 hours would leave him owing compensation of just 6 hours which will be paid back in either of two ways:
His normal daily rest is 15 hours so you could say that a reduced daily rest plus the 6 hours and it’s paid back on any of the working nights Sunday to Thursday.
And / Or
His normal weekly rest period of 63 hours every other week is also enough to cover the compensation of 6 hours required.
So I agree with itsme1969 that he can legally do this even though our calculations are different
As said he will need to be careful of the driving hours as he’s running pretty close with a fortnightly ■■■■■■■■■ driving time of 88 hours which is the only calculation we agree about
Yes thanks tachograph my adding up was pants
