Weekly rest periods
A driver must start a weekly rest period no later than at the end of six consecutive 24-hour periods from the end of the last weekly rest period.
and each 24 hour period is deemed as the period of when you start work, carry out your duties and have a daily rest. if it takes less than 24 hours and you start a fresh new shift that is the start of your next 24 hour period because the previous 24 hour period has ended (by you or me or bungle, george and zippy having worked a shift and then had a daily rest period, it might not have been a full 24 hours, it might have only been 3 but once you have started your daily rest that is the end of 1 of your 24 hour periods up! so you can only use 6! simples
i know where youre coming from and in all other walks of life it would be the logical answer but…
in our world its a lot more complicated/open to interpretation so i will carry on with the 6 shifts as all my days are over 12 hours nowadays so it doesnt concern me (wouldnt be able to do more than 6 shifts/days anyway)
might be worth explaining for others to read though…

Nowhere in the current regulations does it say that the time between daily rest periods should be regarded as a period of 24 hours, it says that “Within each period of 24 hours after the end of the previous daily rest period or weekly rest period a driver shall have taken a new daily rest period”.
In other words when you end a daily rest period you must have completed another daily rest period within the next 24 hours.

You got your wording mixed up there? If you end one how do you have to complete another rest period in the next 24 hours? I.e all criteria is measured from start of shift, not what you have to do at the end of a rest period?
