Driving career-so closeto sayin stuff it

i only need a chance,im hard working, reliable, punctuall just need that break,no employer would regret takin me on,part of the reason im gettin stressed is my shop job im in now finishes in jan and after that who knows?all i want to do is provide for my wife and family and keep our house over our heads, not alot to ask.the goverment could always reduce tax so i can spend money i havent got :imp: are they for real.everything just seems to be up against me at the moment.

I really understand your frustration Clarkyboy, and I’m sure you’ll get a chance, but if your job finishes in Jan then concertrate on getting another job to keep a roof over your families head, but keep trying and pushing, you will get there.

i know what it like to get a job…try getting 1 in felixstowe…i was made redundent from the workshop i have worked in for a short time wasnt impressed at going in 1 morning to be told everyone pack your stuff up i got paid for the next 2 weeks…so i just set myself up doing 24 hour recovery and fixing cars as well as buying a few cheap cars and making a few quid on each one…everyone will still want cheap cars and 24 recovery…i havent stopped much in the past 2 weeks

well ive decided to give up on driving for now, its not bringing the money in and im bored istting at home wondering when the phone will ring if at all. got myself a stock room job at bae systems for xmas. its money and when things pick up ill start driving again.

why don’t you try local car recovery companies? they are always looking for people and you’ll get some good experience of driving different trucks

The bottom line? Given your apparently sound graft & life ethic, Clarkyboy, God will bless you.

Maybe don’t rush Him …but maybe ask Him for a lead to follow when you’re on the chill?

Keep ‘it’ up, matey.

:imp: right, had to put my word in here.clarkyboy,i pmd you with a possible job opening, which, via another tnet member, you were put intouch with the haulier,a local one to yourself(incidently one suggested by hammer) after speaking with the driver who took you out for the day for on the job training, you took little interest in how the loads were to be restrained etc,and busied yourself on your mobile most of the time!the owner offered you a position…you declined!theres blokes on here struggling to get an interview, and you knocked a job back with an experienced haulier, who,as you admit are a novice, could have taught you in a week more than youd learn in a year as a trolley dolly at eddies tesco! your "all i want to do is drive for eddie stobart"remark on another posting says it all really.
ps if theres any drivers who want a start at a n.wales haulier pm me and ill give you the name of said co,there may still be a vacancy?

If this is correct, the reply should be interesting :unamused:

Sweet Jesus. Just read wooshwoosh’s last post, and I really, really wish they didn’t censor swear words 'cos this’d be a great time to use every swear word I know. I don’t know 100% the ins and outs of this story and I’m wary of slagging someone off on mere hearsay but FFS Clarkyboy, do you need to be spoonfed all your life? Dry your eyes, be a man, and grow a pair for Gods sake.

honestly is this a fact    if it is any sympathy for clarky will be long gone :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

and the members wont forget this in a hurry. :imp:

Do yourself a favour Clarkyboy forget it. The job isn’t what it use to be, driving against the clock, no wander accidents happen. If you value your marraige and kids forget it ,so many families have split up because of the job. Great if you are single and a loner.

WTF, I have every sympathy for guys and gals struggling atm, I took a job recently, not what I wanted to do but I aint complaining, the bills are still being paid and I’m one of the lucky ones. If what Whooshwhoosh says is correct, Clarkyboy needs to get his priorities sorted.

Try and get a job with a firm that has class one, two and 7.5. Then you can move up the ranks. You can always join the Army if you are young enough, and you get a cheap house too. But you will be away a LOT!!! Good luck.

hammer:
Clarkyboy, you’re not based a million miles from me and I can appreciate your frustration at how little there is in this area. I own my own truck but its got so slack lately that I’ve started looking for other work to tide me over. I know that in this area there is bugger all.

I’m sure you’ve probably tried it already but have you been through the phone book. I looked under Couriers, Delivery and Collection Services and road haulage services particularly. Maybe some of these might have a bit of van driving or shunting.

I have no idea if any of the following are recruiting or will take someone of your experience but you could try;
Edge Transport (Wrexham)
Grand Prix Express (Mochdre)
Coopers Carriers (Kinmel Bay)
EGS (Wrexham)
RF Bellis (Wrexham)
McCarthy Haulage (Wrexham)
Sunhill Transport (Deeside)
TDS Morgan (Mostyn)
JH Willis (Wrexham)

I decided to keep ploughing on with my own truck for now, picking up the odd day here and there but some of the above were on my list - might be worth a go if you haven’t already tried. Good luck.

It’s a while since I’ve been over that way, but what about Darlingtons, if they are still going? They used to do a lot of boat work out of and into Kemira etc. I know it’s mainly tippers, but if you’re prepared to do that odd Saturday or Sunday nightshift to get your foot in the door. It could do you a lot of good, PM transport in Liverpool used to do similar on Liverpool docks, the tackles maybe not quite as good, but these are the kind of firms who will be most likely to need spare drivers, to cover those shifts that no-one else will do

My mate who took him out rang me the day before and said that there was a wagon sitting in the yard
and that his gaffer had said to him that if the lad hes taking out proves himself then the jobs his. My mate was busy on the trailer taking out the well boards while he wondered around on his mobile taking no interest in what was being done, i am sorry but if it was me id of been up to my neck in the job and more than likely the driver off with question after question all day long
The haulier in question has paid out to train and put a couple of lads and put through there class 1 and is more than willing to give new drivers a start
Two of my mates have worked at the firm for over 10yrs the moneys good the motors are all tidy and you out all week, cant think what more id of wanted when i was starting out

boots on your foot now clarky lets have your explaination :exclamation: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

what chance do new drivers stand? well if you lower yourself to east european driver standards and speak a little english you should do just fine :imp: .i have 30 years experience,20 on euro work, felt like a change, but since feb of this year have been doing agency work,it pays decent though not every day but when i listen to other drivers who have jobs they are always moaning :unamused: saying the usual uk things like am not doing this and that, these are drivers on 48 hours a week even if dont do them still get paid, maybe thats why new drivers have such a hard time ,because you are tarred with same brush but mr east euro driver is desperate and wont answer back or refuse a job and that is what they want over here ,us all to be subserviant to our masters, :imp: so soon as i can am going back over the water to work, may have a chance to go asap.cant wait  and you can keep your dog eat dog attitude over here :smiling_imp:

If thats true clarkyboy… its hardly cricket is it?
Some of us are struggling to get interviews here, and you’re throwing amazing opportunities away!

In the words of Victor Meldrew "I dont believe it!
