It’s not illegal to drive barefoot, but it’s illegal to drive in shoes which does not give you a proper control on the pedals - for example flip flops which can fell of your feet, or high heels for that matter.
i drive in my almond rocks whenever i can, i cant wear steel toecaps to drive in either, i keep mine in a bag under my bunk incase of site deliveries etc.
I much prefer driving in my socks. Not always possible on some jobs but where I can I do.
Some Irish site manager had a paddy at me the other day about it. Got onto the building site to deliver, opened the door and started to put my boots on and he came over and went at me full barrels for entering his site without proper footwear.
I told him I hadn’t put a ruddy foot on his mucky site yet and when I’m in my home I do what I like!
