Hi I am looking to get some experience driving 7.5t while I sort out my C or CE test. Does anyone know what it’s like working for DPD? I appreciate it will be multi drop and hard work. Do they support you when starting or do they just want to get the parcels delivered and don’t care about the drivers?
Thanks for any advice.
Never actually worked as a 7.5t dpd driver but I have as a van driver. 7.5t drivers do the same as van drivers, just less drops/bigger parcels/bigger collections. They give you more time per stop as well. van drivers on average get 2mins a stop I would imagine 7.5t would be double.

I would never work for a firm that put a time limit they short on getting a delivery done.

Thanks for your reply. The interview went well and I have been offered the job starting in a couple of weeks.
The main difference between vans and 7.5t is you are PAYE rather than self employed. The hourly rate seems reasonable for 7.5t. You get a paid weeks induction training which is appealing as I haven’t driven anything bigger than 3.5t for quite a few years. I am planning to take the job because even if it doesn’t work out at least I will get some experience.
Is this direct to DPC or agency?

I applied directly to DPD
Mate of mine works for them. Seems happy enough. He’s on 7.5T, but does the bulk work for them.
From what hes told me, they looked after their staff all way through covid with the likes of bonuses and other little bits.

Thanks for your reply. I got a good impression of them at the interview but as they say talk is cheap. Getting some experience will help in finding other work if it doesn’t work out in the long run

They seem to be more interested in you as a person than what experience you have driving. I have run my own gardening business so emphasized my customer service skills. They were not bothered that I had not driven a 7.5t for over thirty years and had only driven 3.5t recently.
