I’m now experimenting with ‘Peoplenet’ eLogs which are built into and linked to the truck. I have ran them for a few weeks now and they seem ‘okay’.
Before i used the Peoplenet system i was using my ‘own’ computerised log book system called ‘Drivers Daily Log’ which was exactly what it was, it was like a log book on a computer which worked on real time… what a fantastic system!
It’s free to try for the first 30 days, then it costs $50 for the basic programme or $95 for the full system.
It kept me totally legal for everything… including distance covered/speed of vehicle, 7 days, 8 days Canadian and USA rules… it was brill… it’s free to try and was easy to use.
The DOT and cops loved it but were also scared of it. 
just remember to print off some ‘basic instructions’ which is a DOT requirement if you want to use it legally! link is below.
