Sorry mate… most definitely NOT. :frowning:

For periodic training to count it must be done within 5 years of the current DQC (driver cpc card) expiry date

Those with aquired/grandfather rights will have a ‘ghost’ DQC

The one exception is from 09/09/2013 to 09/09/2019 where those with both LGV & PCV aquired rights can count periodic hours for 6 years - this is due to the DSA aligning the LGV & PCV expiry dates

Hi ROG,
my 1st post on the forum so bear with me. Have a workmate who sat and passed both his Class 2 and then Class1 tests earlier this year.During a CPC training module this week the trainer said that my workmate is building up his hours for CPC towards the period after 2013/14 as he is fully up to date because he has recently passed his LGV tests. Can this be correct?

Many thanks,
Dave.

I can’t speak for ROG but assuming that your mate did modules 2 and 4 then he’s good for five years from the date he passed module 4 which presumably would be 2017, any training he does now will count towards the 35 hours he must do to keep driving commercially after that date.

This is unless your mate passed his car driving test before 1997 and had cat C1 on his license when he passed the HGV tests so didn’t do modules 2 and 4, in which case he will need to do the 35 hours training by September 2014.

My thoughts echo those of the llast post especially the passing of the initial LGV dcpc mods 2 & 4 because of the comment made by the dcpc trainer

Passing the initial this year and then doing some periodic hours means he is building up towards his 35 hours which he needs before 2017 so he can keep driving commercially after 2017

The trainer was incorrect about it being after 2013/14 for that driver if my assumptions are correct

To save starting thread ill ask this here  say if you passed your mod 2&4 this year so have till 2017 but you do all your 35 hours in the next year will you have till 2023 or would it go from the date you did your last hour and only last till 2018, not planning on doing this or anything just curious.

The 35 hours periodic training gives you another 5 years entitlement from the date of expiry of the current DQC.

If you have until 2017 to do the periodic training and you did it all this year you would still be good until five years from 2017 which I think would be 2022

Thanks for all the replies, not sure when my mate passed his car test but fairly sure that the trainer is correct in what he says. Just thought it sounded odd to be able to bank training hours for such a long time in the future. Also not sure which modules he has done. The modules we are getting at work appear to include ‘‘job specific’’ training such as winter maintainance including mounting and de-mounting snowplows and the use of diff locks etc. I personally have 1 more session to do to complete my 35 hours.I work as a roadworker for a local authority/council partnership which entails snow clearing and gritting for about 5 months of the year.
Thanks again for the info, some very interesting posts on the forum.
Dave.

Smart wouldn’t of thought that, and yeah your right that would be that would be 2022 I was going from 2013 for some reason :unamused:
