Driver who is getting alot of infringments

talking to a lad whos getting loads of infringments ,struggling with digi tachos,

  1. told by driver trainer to just put tacho on break at every oppertunity  ,i told the lad thats not right he has to use mode switch correctly,if hes working then cross hammers etc,but he says driver trainer just said driving, break, driving ,break, should stop his infringments, thoughts
2.hes having a mare understanding how to put manual entries in,been told by driver rep that he doesnt need too,he just has to write all his start/finish times on printout at end of shift, thatll be fine, again i think the kids being told wrong,he should be doing manual entries,if he cant, someone,i.e a driver trainer should be spending time with him until hes compedent in doing them, thoughts.
3 hes on a displinary over it all, obviously concerned he maybe sacked,i dont think so,my belief is they have a go at sorting problem out by giving him the correct training, rest of drivers just said bring in your uniform with you as you wont be needing it again :unamused: ,obviously if it carried on after training then eventually some action would have to happen, but surely its not one strike you out for infringments, seems harsh if true

The company need to nip that in the bud quickly I think by working with him and not against him, and as for the trainer what a spanner he must be.

His employer has a legal obligation to point out to him why he’s getting infringements and show him how to do things correctly.

If the trainer really is telling the driver to use break when he’s working the company had better hope VOSA don’t find out about it or they could be saying goodbye to their operators license for a while.

No good sacking the driver it sounds like it’s the driver trainer who needs sacking if what you’ve been told is correct.

Will Billy keep his operators licence, he has only 17 minutes to get to Beverley Bells office, will he make it?

Could this be the end of the Bill and Andy roadshow?

I forgot the OP works for the gentle green giant, I’d be surprised if one of their trainers was really coming out with stuff like that to be honest … or am I being naive

no thats what the lads been told by d.t,it did suprise me to be honest, the one about doing printouts/writing on them instead of manual entries didnt,as i know who that came from, feel sorry for the kid as hes obviously struggling, but instead of a disiplinary id of thought a few hours with him should sort it.

quite right b.b,as soon as they realised hed got 12 infridgments in no time at all they should of stuck him with a driver for the day who knows what hes doing and got it sorted out,but instead theres reams of paper work, everyone who doesnt know what there doing is telling what to do,now its a disaplinary, hes frightened to death,i just sat there shaking my head, its a joke

Yes I agree it’s a shame if he’s not getting the help he obviously needs, the trainers motives may be worthy if he’s just trying to keep the bloke out of trouble but eventually he’s got to learn to use the tachograph correctly.

Could the driver ask for more training, or doesn’t it work like that there ?

No idea where in the country the OP is based, but if he can get to mine I’ll treat him to a FREE DCPC course including Drivers Hours and Digital Tachos

Then he can come back on here and get the right answers

Offer is valid … I’ll stand by it.
