You can guarantee that if there was a test then you’d get an element of drivers complaining that “Truck driving is a hands-on job and drivers shouldn’t be expected to do any kind of academics!”. For every one who currently says there should be a test, I bet you could equally find one who says there shouldn’t be!
I agree up to a point, but such things as ADR are already academic tests so those drivers who whinge are going to be those that want to drive tippers on local quarry work or like that. More to the point, it seems virtually every driver is complaining about this, not a mere percentage.
If this thing has to be, and the ADR is a good comparison, then a week long course with general tests for all the things you offer, once every 5 years would surely suffice? It would also be an achievement for drivers and they would feel something had been accomplished. In Ontario, they have to sit a written test every 5 years anyway, and it is accepted without question.
More than anything, I get the impression that it is the fact that everyone will be viewed as having studied but will not have anything tangible to show for it. Having this card which is something many will be able to virtually buy is not the way to go. I accept and appreciate that you have no ulterior motives. I know your situation fairly well, but you are not really well represented by some others.
And I really do appreciate that there are many drivers out there who are woefully out of date, or have no true grasp of, drivers hours regs, but that should not condemn all drivers to feeling like they are having to waste their time and money doing something.
Just as a point of interest, many of the real long haul boys and girls will not just lose 5 days. They will lose maybe 15 or more. If they miss a run then some may be laid up for 4 or 5 days waiting for another. If I had to do this then I would miss a minimum of 3 days for every day that I have to attend by the time they plan me to get home, I attend and then get planned out again.
The CPC imho is just yet more " Brussells Interference " a money making excercise, dreamt up by some faceless cretins who are probably on wages ( and expenses ) we can only dream about.
I have no problem with training as long as you learn something from it,this 35 hours nonsense is as said a money making excercise, badly thought out and just another thing in the long list of things that come from Brussells on a regular basis, what next ■■?
If I wish to continue as a driver 2014 and beyond,it means I as an agency driver will have to pay for it myself, plus loss of earnings while attending,it’s a joke and the laughs on us.
I need to earn a living and will do.
Looks like I’ll be buying a dodgy one, like many will, when the time comes.

The way things are it could be a market for many brown envelopes passing about, and if a driver thinks it a waste of time and money who can blame them.
Be very easy for a provider to do, Train five and submit 7/8 to a database.

I couldn’t vote as there wasn’t a ‘I don’t care’ option.
Work will be paying for it and I’ll get paid while I am doing it so that’s fine.
If circumstances change and I work somewhere were they don’t pay for it I’ll get a dodgy one for the a few quid so again that’s fine. It’s not worth getting bothered about as far as I see it.
The poll was only a joke anyway, it was just to make Johnno, Alan, Barry, or whoever happy

I voted, 2nd one down, but with us we have our own trainers which means the company has only paid out once or twice for the 1 or 2 that we have rather than sending the 2000+ staff who hold an LGV to independant trainers. This way we can have 30 drivers there but they come from 5 or 6 different depots. When i was at my 3rd session y’day (see the other ongoing thread) there were people who attended but never have any intention of driving but hold the ticket…they said they would do it ‘cuz it’s free’!! One warehouseman at another depot has the ticket cuz he does ‘shunting cover’ but has no confidence out on the open road as other traffic scares him…his admission

Ah right, got you although I have no idea who Johnno, Alan or Barry are. I guess I must have missed something?
So often I read its came from Europe so we have to fall into line. The Messerschmits ,Heinkels, Scharnhorst, Bismark and Tirpitz came from Europe but our Fathers and Grandfathers sent the little rascals back,so why cant we?

The poll was a good idea to get a better idea of feelings, some are sick of it already but might just vote.
So far it looks pretty conclusive
Its a Travesty
Conclusive? There 124 registered users online right now. In 24 hours there’s been 43 votes. 33 are dead against and think its a bad idea.
Whilst we’re doing pointless polls, how about on to see who thinks the 4 and half hours driving limit before needing a break should be scrapped?!!!

Going by % it is pretty conclusive. most votes are taken on % unless of course it does not suit you then you look to change it to suit.
Look at nearly all threads or votes very few are in favour
As I also said, most possibly cannot be bothered as they do not careless
Mike c and one or two others are saying nothing against the cpc and in fact saying it is a good idea, or why are they arguing at those who are in anopposing mood
If they conclude it is a good idea, then in principle they are saying every driver in the UK needs Training.
So if every driver in the UK needs training, how have the many 10000s been driving for many years with no problems.
Billions of miles every year by 600.000 drivers and all of a sudden the EU decide every one needs to be Trained.
Those that need to be trained should but the cpc is tarring all with the same brush and basically saying we are not trained to do our jobs.
