DRIVER CPC - You gotta laugh

Those who know me know I am a Driver CPC Trainer and therefore the subject of many derisive comments and remarks - but I feel i do the best job I can within the constraints of the DCPC rules.

Yesterday a driver attending a Drivers Hours course had issues with the information I was giving insisting I was wrong. He proceeded to produce the ‘correct’ information in the form of a printed handbook given to him by the last DCPC training company.

Here are some of the excellent snippets they have clearly been ‘teaching’ people.

1. After 9 hours of a daily driving period a daily rest must be taken
2. Daily rest can be reduced to 9 hours on three occasions per week
3. Known “Periods of Availability” (POAs) can be treated as breaks
4. Reduced weekly rest of a minimum of 24 hours can be taken once a fortnight
5. (My favourite) “Waiting” time can be regarded as break as long as the driver is “in a position to freely dispose of his time”

So what does the collective think of the above taken from a print out of a JAUPT approved DCPC course??

Pete

You clearly believe these are all false so enlighten us all.

I’d say they’re roughly right apart from that freely dispose of time thing?

2. Daily rest can be reduced to 9 hours on three occasions per week

1 - Deffo wrong because it states that a rest must be taken immediately on completion of that 9 hours driving and fails to mention the possibility of doing 10 hours

2 - between weekly rests and not per week

3 - Only if under MM rules and does not need to know the length

4 - take as many as you like in a fortnight - its the regular weekly rest taken that must be at least once a fortnight

5 - that is for rest only

5 out of 5 incorrect - which ever provider is teaching that wants reporting to JAUPT/DSA

ROG:
which ever provider is teaching that wants reporting to JAUPT/DSA

My thoughts exactly. I suppose I should pass the information on.

I was very surprised to see they had got the RTD/WTD stuff correct - I expected the old 30 mins at or before 6 hours ‘duty’ malarkey
