I’m not sure about that if you’re still in the UK.
In Alberta, you exchange your UK licence for an Alberta licence at one of the many registry offices. This will allow you to drive cars, assuming you have that category on your UK licence. It won’t let you drive trucks or buses etc. You have to take several tests before you can do that.
As soon as you have an Alberta driving licence, you can ask for a driver’s abstract from the registry office which will show you have no demerits. You pay a fee to the registry office for the abstract. UK fines and points won’t show on an Alberta driver’s abstract.
Registry offices arrange driving licences and driving tests among other services.

You can get a complete record of your driving history from dvla. Only costs about a fiver.
I keep seeing this ‘Driver abstract’ question, it must be a Canadian thing ? I had to just get a reference saying I had 2 years experience on class 1.

Most companies here ask for them before they employ you. Basically its just a piece of A4 paper that tells them you dont have any motoring offences, or if you do, what they are. You go down to the local Service New Brunswick (or whichever province you’re in), hand over $20 and get issued with a fancy gold leaf coated certificate. Well okay, its not gold leaf coated, but it still costs $20 for one piece of paper so it bloody well should be.
Mostly now though, companies will just get you to sign something which gives them permission to go and get it themselves, saving you the time, hassle and money.
$35 in High River for 5yr abstract.
