About 2145 hours on Monday 28th August 2017 police officers on patrol observed a 40 tonne HGV driving on the A75 near Newton Stewart. The HGV was seen to repeatedly cross the centre white line on the A75 in a dangerous manner.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to be three and a half times over the drink drive limit. The driver then attempted to fight with police and resisted arrest.
The driver, Roy Cullen aged 45, appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Tuesday 29th August 2017 and was jailed for 3 months. He was also banned from driving for 3 years and fined £1600.
Quite scary really. I’ve probably been that amount over before. Not when I’ve been driving the next day before the sanctimonious start. Does anyone have rough idea how much booze that actually constitutes for a well rested average sized bloke?
well you can get done on 1 pint thanks to scotlands draconian drink limit. so mabey 4 pints?
or were you meaning.if youve driven for a while the next day and get done like that, how many gallons would you need to have swallowed the night before you went to your kip for a 9?

Nine units of booze which is around four to five pints

That’s not a great deal in the great scheme of things is it? Three times the limit makes it sound like a 24 hour bender.

Not if you count the amount of units of alcohol, after a session. After an agreeable evening in a Weatherspoons, I have been known to have had 12+ units in my blood. Christ, I may have come close to triple figures in my young days, when whiskey chasers and Rum and Coke where drunk with gay abandon…
But considering that the driver has been driving for at least an hour, and has had a few hours kip, he would have had in excess of 7 pints+, the night before he knew he had to drive. If he had a full 8 hours kip, we’re talking 12+ pints…
Unless he’d been drinking whilst driving.
The drunk driver who hit me blew 130 (I think) at the roadside, just short of four times the limit. Plod (who only caught him because he came back whilst they were ticketing me for parking on the pavement) were stunned he could get to his car, let alone make it move!
