Don’t mind me , just practising that’s all . Please feel free to move on up the page .
I remember well when eastern docks was like the image Eddie posted,.
.
IIRC it was just before maybe just after the WW2 submarine pens were demolished.
My dad used to load Cyprus potatoes from the Western docks,I always used to go with him in the school summer holidays, always baking hot weather!
The western docks have changed beyond all recon now-it’s a marina now I think-we used to walk up the jetty/pier and go to the little cafe at the end ,and I remember the concrete walls had little windows in and my dad would lift me up to see the big cross channel hovercraft coming in
I can always remember struggling up jubilee way except when we had the Transcontinental, and we would usually go into London and deliver to one of the markets, then sometimes home to Hertfordshire, for a few hours or sometimes straight back to Dover to do it all again!!
I can remember the smell of the spuds sweating in the summer evening (roped and sheeted) and if we went straight into London we always stopped at the Kentucky fried chicken in Blackheath-always a treat that was😂
This would have been early eighties
Strange the things you remember!!
