is it possible to do 18hr shift double manning
Yes,21 hours is max.
Yep, as stated 21 hours, followed by 9 hours off and the vehicle must be stationary.
YAY, 30 hr days, wait till Carryfast gets on this page
Hi all.Thought it was 30hrs max.As u can both do 15hrs.Stand to be corrected though.

Itâs 30 hour spread-over.
When multi-manning you should have completed a daily rest period of no less than 9 hours within 30 hours from the start of shift, that makes a maximum of 21 hour shift as has been said
Erm, so how does that work then? I thought you could only take daily rest in a stationary/stationery/not moving vehicle and you need a minimum of 9 hours a day, so that makes it a 15hr day per person.
So how does getting two drivers together mean that you can have a 21 hour duty? Where and how do the other 6 hours come into play?

You cannot take a daily rest period in a moving vehicle but if youâre multi-manning you need to have a daily rest rest period completed within 30 hours from the start of shift rather than the normal daily rest period being completed within 24 hours from the start of shift, itâs a concession for drivers who are multi-manning.
article 8.5 (EC) 561/2006:
By way of derogation from paragraph 2, within 30 hours
of the end of a daily or weekly rest period, a driver engaged in
multi-manning must have taken a new daily rest period of at
least nine hours.

quite simply like so
2 drivers, each can do a 10 hour driving stint (if possible) and the hour for changeovers/toilet breakes etc
when one driver is driving the other is probably sleeping/resting, it works out at 10.5 hours work for each driver you cannot do a 30 hour duty time though you have to have had your daily rest within that 30 hours.
When double manning you both can drive for the maximum of 10 hours twice a week and 9 hours for the remaining 4 shifts.
Driver 1 drives for 4 hours, you change-over and Driver 2 drives for 4 hours too (thatâs 8 hours so far). You change-over again and Driver 1 drives for another 4 hours. Another change-over and Driver 2 drives for 4 hours too (thatâs 16 hours so far). Both of you then have two hours driving left. You change-over and Driver 1 drives for his/her 2 hours, followed by Driver 2 driving for his/her remaining 2 hours (thatâs 20 hours so far). The extra hour is the time allocated for the change-overs (21 hours total). Both of you take a 9 hour daily rest period together (the 30 hour spreadover).
If you only have 9 hours driving each, youâll have a combined driving period of 18 hours plus the 1 hour allocated for the change-overs plus an 11 hour daily rest period which makes, youâve guessed it, 30 hours total!
The whole concept of double manning is that the vehicle can cover greater distances than a single manned vehicle.
Does that makes sense?
You can only double man 3 times in an given week
A double man team doesnât need to take 11 hours rest off, it is allowed on every âShiftâ to be 9 hours as long as the vehicle is stationary.
A second man can take his break on a moving vehicle although the recording equipment doesnât recognise that.
One other important change is that the second man doesnât have to be in the vehicle for the first hour.
Here is an example of a multi manned week.
Monday 06.01 until 03.01 Tuesday (20h)
Nine Hours Rest
Tuesday 12.01 until Wednesday 09.01 (20h) Providing both drivers have 10 hours available in the week
Nine Hours Rest
Thursday 00.01 until Friday 21.01 (18h)
Nine Hours Rest
Saturday 06.01 until Saturday 16.01 (9h)
24 Hour Weekly Rest Period
This is not a maximum week, both drivers have only reached 67 hours between them.
This will have Carrycot spitting feathers
Thanks All Much clearer now

Nonsense. You can double man every shift if you so wish to.

Gogzy. I believe you are mistaken or confused
You can only use your ten hours driving if you have them available. You can have 3 or more drivers and they all use two 10 hour periods per week.
Drivers daily driving time may be extended to at most
10 hours not more than twice during the week.
There is no requirement for an 11 hour daily rest period whilst multi manning.
