I’m just after some advice, lorry driving is something I have always wanted to do since a very young age but its not been the right time, when is it?
I would like to do my full lorry licence but one thing at a time so my cat c lisence sounds good.
I currently work for DPD and have done van driving on and off for about 3 years now and driving for 4 years, very simple and easy if you know how to use a map and have some common sence.
I have worked for a few different agencies and I have a few good connections, 1 of them being driving agency in Essex. The person I deal with is always emailing me asking me if I’m avliable for work, I’m a very reliable, clean, tidy and hard working indiviual. The last time I spoke with him I mentioned I might consider doing my HGV and he got excited and just said tell me as soon as you have it as I can get you work with no expirence. lol (I always take things with a pinch of salt)
My main reason for signing up is for some advice about the best route to take getting my cat c licence and any advice.
Welcome to the forum pal.
And as from what I’ve seen of DPD drivers, you don’t hang about to stop and chat…
So if you can cut that, truck driving hopefully should be a walk in the park by comparison!
The real question you should be asking yourself is whether you define your future career path as ‘professional driver’, or you choose a different path entirely. Whether that’s a better or worse choice than spending the rest of your working life behind the wheel, only you can answer!

Over the christmas period I was doing on between 160 and 180 stops a day so there was very little time too stop and talk. I’m not a massive talker tbh anyway, I enjoy my own company? If thats the best way too put it? lol
I can’t give a honest answer at the moment, once I’ve been doing it for a year or two I think I’ll know if its for me. Every job has its pros and cons.
Luckily I’m only 24 so I still have a little bit of time to move onto the next path if I don’t feel its for me.
When I filled my form out all that time ago fella I just ticked the provisional boxes for cat C and cat D (makes sense to apply for coach provisional at same time as lorry because then in the future should you want to try coaches you’ll already have the provisional category and won’t need to apply again) you won’t need to do C1 as you can leap frog that straight to C and you’ll automatically get your C+E provisional once you’ve gained your C licence hth.
