I am asking because we were charged £30 waiting time for a virgin limo bike in London ! When I queried the invoice I was reminded they were professionals and the charge was in line with other professional logistic companies. They charge £60 and hour waiting at airport and £70 in London plus any parking costs or tickets ! They felt £60 - 70 was reasonable for what they offer.
.
when i worked for PJ O’kane. they charged £35 per hour, and Donnel and Ellis charged £70 per hour.
this was about 8 or 10 years ago.
the reason for the price difference was i only had one 75’ bridge section, and they carried two.
too many companies don’t charge it any longer. far too worried about losing future work.
idiots.
When I worked for a French company demurrage was charged to such a level that when ever I turned up to tip,the lorry was dealt with almost immediately.Indeed on some occasions the demurrage I was paid if delayed exceeded the rate I was paid for the job.drivers in France don’t usually have tales of sitting in some RDC for hours, quite the opposite.Certainly a major flaw in the UK transport industry’s policy,a delayed lorry costs money …why should the operator pay.
asda pay us £30 an hour after 3 hours , it used to be 2 hrs but they changed it last year
Container shippers charge demurrage. Normal terms are three hours to empty box, after that its on the meter.
Yep 75 quid an hour, after 2 hours, along with additional labour charges if the driver has to do anything other than secure it.

I subbed for a large container firm for a while & they’d always say “get the times on your notes & get them signed if over 3hrs” & I did for a while, that was until I found I wasn’t getting anything except every excuse inder the sun. So I stopped & was pulled by one of the traffic blokes who said “you must get the notes signed at these long tips or you won’t get your demurrage”. I told him that I hadn’t had a cent despite getting numerous notes signed & I’d be ■■■■■■ if I was going to earn them any more money if none of it was going to get through to me!!!
& I didn’t!!
Ross.
Most UK haulage firms are gutless & quite happy to allow their vechicles to be used free warehousing for clients&are reluctant to charge demurrage “in case we upset the customer&lose the work” if everybody stood together and laid down conditions eg 45 mins thereafter £75.00/hr? just think of the benefits no more lost back loads,no more abuse of drivers (unscheduled nights out),but I guess I’m living in cloud cuckoo land, lots of hauliers are lucky if they get paid at the moment

We have a lot of tippers deliver to us and they seem to charge if you don’t tip them in 5 mins! Especially if they are owner operators, they need to fill their day, and I don’t blame them. If I’m struggling to tip them, ie it’s a sensitive load like Tarmac I will ask them if they are willing to park up on break for a 15 or 30, they are normally really helpful as I can help them use up their breaks woth out waste and they help me organise the site.
tk maxx newcastle under lyme 6 am book in time this morning on bay at 6.05, got the green light at 13.30 . booked 4.30 demurrage they seem to be happy to pay it because they like to open inspect and count every box item that comes out of the container

But that’s just exactly where its all wrong! Shouldn’t be a case of ASDA being gracious enough to PAY you £30 after 3 hours, it should be what you CHARGE THEM after 2 hours.
It was not charging demurrage (mostly to Tesco, MIddlewich) - because I didn’t at the time know I could, that was partially to blame for putting me out of business back in 1999.
The shipper I subbie for pay us £25 per hour after 2hrs. I will sit there for 5 & 6 hours getting paid and not burning diesel
my boss charges £50 per hour after 2 hours. he goes and visits all his customers in march every year which they will be givin a copy of the companys t&c’s for the coming year. most of the customers aint botherd by the hourly charge as they know we wont be in there premisis for more than 15 mins, the ones that are botherd are grain merchants but consideration is givin at harvest time due too the amount of traffic at grain stores.
there no gain if there aint a bit of pain in the tipper game
