Docks Parking

I no some docks allow parking but most don’t and if they do there’s no facility for drivers which i find odd ,there’s a huge amount of traffic in and out of docks why don’t they have a truck park and showers toilets ect

That’s an easy one to answer.

Because it’s expensive and they don’t give a ■■■■ about drivers.

eeeee, the good old days down Liverpool when you were number 100 in the queue and you just knew you would be there for the night … park where you are driver, and take your pick of umpteen cafes along dock road… and if you want company,

Apart from the running costs are they only expensive because they get abused by the users ?

Felixstowe is pretty good for driver facilities, apart from showers, decent canteen with decent food (which is hardly used by drivers), and very safe parking.

I always liked parking at harwich Parkeston, half decent facilities, used to go for a wander and watch the ships, both at hw and fxt - always had a thing for ships, wondering where they were going, where they’d been etc.

Not been for a while but you could park at the docks in Berwick. No facilities but a 5 min stroll across the old bridge and you were in the town centre.

There always has been a shower block there and recently mmtm that id had been completely refurbed. Not stopped there for a while so not sure how true that is.

I parked there on tues night new showers now open £10 to park and everything you need within a 5mins walk

You have a valid and good point about docks making an ideal truckstop.
The first reason why;Docks are not near residential areas which stops the anti truck Nimbies sticking their nosey beaks in to stop the planning process.
Large areas of wasteland in docks that are used to store stuff that is useless or old.
I have posted why Councils do not make the full use of park and ride car parks that are locked at night.
All that space where trucks could over night in.
There are dozens of old war airfields that would make a good truckstop.
The only one used for that is Marshalls transport near Pershore.
You park on the runway.Cctv.No food on site.
Nearest pub is a five mile walk.It is on SNAP.

Commuters wouldn’t like to arrive in a car park full of stinking p*ss and used nodders in the morning

Seems like the biggest issue is these things cost and no one wants to pay including the truckers/haulage firms.
