Do you use internet abroad

Recently when on holiday I used my internet but had to buy boosters so it wasn’t so dear. However it got me thinking as to how european truckers go on abroad. Do you just not use it or is there an alternative . My sat nav downloads from the internet as I drive. Thanks

Have 25 mb a day for internet use it ok as long as you don’t upload any pictures and turn everything to manual rather than push have to remember to turn the xbox connection off too

Sent from my Windows Phone 8X by HTC using Board Express

I only use the free wifi when i am over the water .

i got my wife one of them touch screen internet phones, the bloody thing costantly connected to the internet wherever we were.
we went to austria, out of the uk for less than a week. £200. they didn’t get paid.
we then went to romania, she switched it off.
it’s a bloody rip off.

Plenty of free wifi abroad. I have a euro data package on my smartphone but to be honest I barely use it. The odd check of something on google or a quick gander on the forums sometimes. To be honest, parking abroad being a more sociable thing I use it far less than here

10 gigs a month roaming.

I have a 10gb download allowance for €49:81 per month, yes 10 gigs

The deal is with Vodafone (Ireland) they don’t advertise this, and when I enquired about it in some V/F shops the reps denied all knowledge of this package…

The package is a called Vodafone world, and has different plans. Ie: Europe, USA, Oz ect.
I took the Europe plan obviously, and as I said it gives me a generous 10 gigs a month roaming. I know your scratching your heads and thinking “there’s a catch somewhere”

Yes there is. It’s a business plan that V/F don’t want you the normal joe soap to know about. When I first took out the plan I had to constantly call V/F customer services to lift the Barr that kicks in every day. When I threatened to cancel my direct debit as they were not giving me the service I signed up to they lifted all barrs which means I now only pay €49:81 per month as long as I don’t go over the 10gigs. (Some hope of that)

Since then I have learned if id had, had a smart phone that could hold a micro sim all I would have needed to do when the Barr kicked in would be to remove the sim from my iPad, insert it into the phone and send a txt to V/F saying “no bars” simple

Countries covered:
UK, Germany,Italy, IRL, Spain,France,NL, CZ,Portugal, Albania, Romania, hungary, Malta.
One of the main ones not covered is Belgium, apparently their providers charge too much.
Switzerland (need I say any more)

I’m sorry I can’t verify what offers V/Fone U.K have, but what I can say is when I’m in the UK I’m on the V/F network. So I can’t see why they don’t have something similar.

Remember: V/Fone denied all knowledge of this in every store I visited, I spoke to a fellow driver one day on the trawler from H/head to Dublin and he told me to call customer services when I got home. I did and the guy I spoke to said "yes we have that deal, I don’t know why the shops you visited didn’t inform you of it, he took their details and assured me they would be brought up to date with the offer.
4 months on and hey presto, if you we’re to go into either of the shops I visited they still deny all knowledge of the Vodafone Europe plan!
And to add to that, if you we’re to go into any Vodafone shop in Ireland they will act dumb. Which leads me to think, they just don’t want us to know about it.

This is only my opinion:
The deal is targeted to the business sector, traveling business man who’ll use his device whenever it’s needed, and not the normal joe who’s parked up for 11 hrs and is going to spend a couple of hrs a day online. I’m not sure what the law is regarding the advertisement of a deal like this, I can only assume when you ask about it they can’t deny it.
So you’ve got nothing to loose.

Good luck all and I hope this info has been of some use.

I have a smartphone, on contract with Vodaphone.
For £40 a month I get 25mb internet access a day with European roaming, a large number of texts and a good bit of phone call time. I use it in Holland, Belgium, France, Germany and Switzerland, I expect it’s also good for Italy, Spain and Portugal. I don’t know where else I can use it, those countries are where I go.

I used to use around 40mb a month, at a £1/mb, plus phone calls and texts.
I use the internet mainly for TNUK, Facebook and Google maps. I don’t have anything blocked, like pictures. I tend NOT to check videos though.
So far I haven’t had to pay any extra, on top of my £40 a month.
