Do you regret becoming an HGV driver

if yes why and if no why

No, my dream job as a child. None of my friends ever achieved that! Ok, they say I aimed low but ■■■■ 'em! I love it.

I did my class 1 in 1990 and worked full time as a driver until 2006. I now do a bit of agency driving part time and it fits in with other jobs I do. My licence will always be there and I can always go back to it if my house building projects don’t work out.
Always enjoyed driving, never saw it as a chore. Didn’t ever get stressed about early starts, traffic and booking in slots or waiting about. That said I worked for a decent firm.
So no, I don’t.

No not at all. But can’t really comment just yet, still happy where I am at 24 at the moment.

YES, also my dream as a kid, and it was a good job/life first 10 to 12 years , but after that for next 20 or so constantly got worse to point of being unrecognisable from when I first started to present day where it has turned to sh.

There should be a part in the vote asking how long the yes/nos have done the job, I reckon there would be a pattern among the more, and less, experienced drivers.

It might not be the highest paid job in the world, but for physical effort it is well paid. For Mental effort it is well paid. For “I don’t give a toss and every other vehicle on the road is ■■■■■■■ holding me up”? Then it is still well paid.

If you are doing more than 8 drops a day in anything over 18T then you are being had. Any job over 7.5T work is a piece of ■■■■. No messing about, it is REALLY EASY.

So, from 7.5T driver to 44T lazy driver we should all be on £30k plus a year, right?

Voted no for the simple fact that i wasnt really qualified to do anything else at the time apart from tyre fitting.
Must admit the novelty is starting to wear off after 30 years but i cant see myself going back to tyre fitting at my age :stuck_out_tongue:

i only passed Cat C couple of months ago so no, although i am on the spanners so dont drive for a living yet

I do 12 to 17 drops a day in a 6 wheeler plated at 26t

 In what way exactly

this.
me and my best mate left school at the same time, both did a couple of years in office work for the same firm.
then the yanks took it over and were after some voluntary redundancies. i knew it wasn’t for me, as from being a kid, i knew i’d end up driving wagons, so i took the money and ran.
22 years later, we are still best mates, i’ve done alot of different stuff in this time on the wagons, but have found my niche now with to regards what suits me best. i really enjoy it, and all being well, it will see me out for the next 20 years :grimacing:

my mate stayed where he was, worked his way up, and is now a director for mastercard.
big salary, decent expenses account, and travels everywhere business class, (■■■■■■■■) :grimacing:

yet every time we meet up, he says he is jealous, as he knows i love my job, where as his is a pain in the arse.

I would go straight back to lorry driving given my time again.Always wanted to drive lorries, enjoyed it when I did,and would do it again.

Depends what kind of day I’m having. If it’s a crap day, then I regret it. But on good days, I remember why I wanted to be a trucker and I wouldn’t change my job for anything.

It’s like asking do you regret drinking 15 pints and taking home the village bike for a night of passion

No, the job I enjoy its all the bull ■■■■ that goes with it I these days I don’t like & managers that think they know best because they use a computer …

No but I regret waking up next to her for the past 4 years

No, not really! Although my life could have been simpler as I keep being told. But the job is not getting any better.

that’s not nice, I thought you liked your truck :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes because there’s all sorts of ■■■■■ who interfere with me and my daily job of work. This includes other truckers who don’t like the speed I’m doing, either too slow or too fast…there’s just no pleasing some people.

best job in the world…cant honestly think what else id rather do…within reason
