Do truvelos flash

can anyone settle an argument for me
i think i saw a truvelo flash the other night one of our other drivers is adament that they only use infared so no visible flash
as an aside if anyone lives near the truvelo on the a605 in Thorpe Waterville could you do me a big favor and deliver a pirelli necklace to it preferably with a side order of petrol and swan Vesta’s

Truvelo’s do flash, yes. They have filter in front of the lens though, so that the flash doesn’t blind you.

Yes they do.

A friend of mine got caught on a one in Northamptonshire a few years ago,but as Rob says, they do have a filter to stop them blinding you if they are the forward facing variety.

Ken.

The flash is only a ‘dummy flash’.

An explanation of how they work can be found here:

That is bollox. The flash is very visible to the human eye, unless Ken and I have turned into aliens recently :open_mouth: .

Try this from the Truvelo website, Rob.

Perhaps my description of dummy flash was a bit lacking.

The one that copped my mate, was coming into Geddington, and he got caught about 2am,and told me that he knew he’d been caught, due to the red flash unit on the camera,as it was a forward facing one.

Ken.

The flash from a Truvelo can be visible, under the right conditions.

The conditions being.

The driver or any passenger must have sight in at least one eye.

Yep but if you look at the picture there is no scamera inside that one as it’s a “DUMMY”

The ones with Cameras inside do flash with a filtered Red Light, I use to see it happen to other trucks many a time on the A14 at Huntington North Bound before you crossed the bridge.

As Davey says that shows the dummy set up. If you look at the top of the picture you can quite clearly see the two apertures were the camera lens and flash head would sit.

If it were a live set up this would be sat on the shelf were the flash units is in your picture.

And if you look at this picture you can clearly see the image is not infra red and the hue of the filtered flash is clearly visible.

They use a dummy setup because not every Gatso/Truevelo is live, the camera equipment being more expensive than the installation. So the scamera partnerships buy more installations than cameras and move the more expensive cameras around the sites. Then buy these cheaper dummy units, to flash at motorists because everybody talks about seeing someone getting flashed and it then adds credence to the deterrent.

The only Cameras that I know of, that are permanently live are the two red light cameras on the railway crossing, at the approach to Carnaby Industrial estate near Bridlington. These being operated by the British Transport Police.

Truvelo’s flash…fact . I got flashed just over 4 yrs ago at the very same one as Quinny’s mate , going thru Geddinton Northants. It was about 10am too and a bright day.
Got the dreaded envolope about three weeks later :smiling_imp:

I wouldn’t mind but Ihad been thru there 100’s of times on the way to Corby and so was fully aware it was there, just a lack of concentration one morning and BANG 3 points :unamused:

Still , there gone now so I’m clean again

JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZ

These are going to take some spotting when they get approved!!
