I may have a job in the pipeline that means I need to drive upto a 7.5t.
Looked at a few training providers and all looks pretty straightforward, except what is this here CPC all about?
I’m a lighting technician, and the job in question is transporting lighting equipment to film/TV locations, and setting up and providing power for the lights ( some of the trucks have generators ).
My contact says the CPC is for drivers carrying passengers or cargo, and I won’t need one as the equipment I carry is for my job, and driving is not the main role?!
Example 3: power generator fixed to the bed of a vehicle A driver drives a lorry with a power generator fixed to the bed of the vehicle, but driving isn’t their main activity. They drive to road maintenance sites where the generator is used to power site equipment. They do various tasks at the site, including monitoring the generator to make sure it’s working correctly. They don’t need Driver CPC.
If you are carrying equipment that you need for your work you are exempt. But if, for instance, you were picking up gear at one place and delivering it for a colleague to use, you are then a driver and in scope of cpc.
The minimum age at which you can obtain
an LGV licence is 18 years. Between 18
and 21, LGV drivers must hold an initial
Driver CPC qualification (regardless of
whether the licence is intended to be used
professionally or otherwise). For drivers
over 21 years of age, the Driver CPC
qualification is only a necessity if the licence
is being used professionally
