I have been wondering for a while whether the driving laws regarding driving hours actually make the roads a safer place, I understand that something has to be in place but it also strikes me that the introduction of driving limits has the potential to create unsafe situations with drivers rushing around trying to beat the clock before they run out of hours! Are there any reliable statistics or data that prove the rules are effective? How many accidents are caused by mistakes made by drivers who are rushing due to the time restraints?
What is the history behind the driving laws, introduction date, progressive updates etc?
Just imagine what some unscrupulous companies would have their drivers doing if there were no regulations of course it’s safer, imagine what hours the EE drivers would be doing.
e.g. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=132270. I’d be interested to know if there were any stats or what the rationale for the regulations was. Probably along with generally increasing safety on the roads, the regs mean that many deaths have been prevented but you can’t tell which of us is alive today because of them. Let us know if you find out anything.
