Do analog tachos record anything internally?

Recently I’ve been forced to go back into the stoneage using analog tachos on various trucks, but I wondered if they record anything in the head unit such as driving without chart or infringements?

On a digi unit it’ll record driving without card for example, but is there anything equivalent in an analog box or is it purely what the chart states which VOSA would have to take as an accurate driving record? Btw, not planning to do anything dodgy with them (if I get another), but just curious.

Absolutely Zb all

Don’t think it does store anything internally - Even if it did, how would VOSA/Police etc retrieve it? There is no download port or similar.

They can tell if the truck has been driven without a chart inserted because the distance trace needle still moves, so the marks will not line up on the charts before and after the truck was moved without a chart.

Never actually used a ‘digi’ ,never had any problems either quite the opposite. When you are pulled and checked with a digi the computer gives
Dumbo all the info he needs so I am told. Well they soon forgot how to read an analog, usually mix my cards up, I keep them I’m in order and
thrust them back to me with a look of disgust.

no they can’t ,all they can see is the lorry has moved and that you’ve no card to show it ,may have been someone else who moved it .

You know what I mean

The original post should of just said “if I take my card out to get home today will I get busted?”

Question for those in the know… I use a log book and recently had to take the yard shunter on the road never put a chart in because I don’t possess any and there were none lying inside. What would the consequences have been had I been pulled if any?

If you’re using a log book presumably you’re on domestic regulations ?

If that’s the case you don’t need to use the tachograph.

Yeah on domestic rules. The reason I ask is I got pulled by vosa a few weeks ago and presented my log book they still downloaded the head to make sure it tallied up I assume. I was just wondering if they would still want to see a hard copy of driving shown on a chart.

This happened to me, in china town in manchester was making an early morning delivery 9.30, parked up out side down the road, 9.15 bob and his friend in the silly white hat knocks on my door.

“Just checking your hours drive!”

Both out side looking at the O Licence, I don’t have fancy cental locking on the truck and climb out, 3 points of contact and all. Walk around and unlock the passenger door.

Bob gets in asks for all my ids and such, Here is my licence, my CPC and my… Digi Card. The look on his face. then I dug though the storage compartment and passed him like 6 weeks of charts.

He just’s asks “Do you work weekends?” I reply “No”, Bye

You need to do 10 kms off the card to put the needle back to where it was and pretend it didn’t happen, just keep the finish start mileage the same, never seen one yet count the peaks and troughs on a full days card.

Yes you are right. But the question was can they tell if it’s been moved without a chart recording anything. The answer to that is yes.

Whether they check, or if there are ways around it, is neither here nor there. I used to check my peaks and troughs everyday to make sure my stated kms matched the distance trace.

Rubbish ,if a anolog tacho lorry is moved with no card in no one can tell if a card was used for that movement or not .

Dan at no point did I say that they know if a chart is in for movement.

But they can tell if the truck has been moved if the distance trace needle doesn’t match up on the charts before and after the movement, and if the peaks and troughs don’t match the stated mileage on the charts.

Ok ,it just reads that way ,
