Yesterday diverted off at jct 36 m6 southbound to get round lancaster whatever the problem was , and today northbound on a1 closed 47 to 49 as stated on matrix , tried to go round it coming back on at 49 and on slip closed . Is it best to try and get round congestion or best sticking with it? Or is it just luck lol.

Dare I say it but thus is somewhere where a satnav with traffic could help make an informed decision
Its a tough call to be honest.
I always run Google maps alongside my sat nav and look at what the alternatives are and how much time it will save against how much further I will need to drive.
There have certainly been times when I have diverted and then wished I hadn’t bothered.

I was approaching a long delay on the M62 the other day (Thursday) and had this very dilemma. J29 to 26 were crawling. Do I come off and go north on the M1, round the M621 and back on at J27, or do I sit in traffic for three junctions? I don’t know any other way round for an artic.
