Directions to whitby

Right guys & girls, going to whitby this weekend, cant leave till after 2pm friday so whats the best route, obviously gona hit traffic somewhere cos of the start time but which way is best■■? Oh yeah I live in hemel hempstead - ta muchly

A1 all the way till you reach A170 and follow all way to whitby is one…

A1 upto A64 for Leeds & York take the York then A170 for Scarbourgh continue to Whitby

straight up the A1 till you get north of leeds. Turn right onto A64 until you get your feet wet.

A1 to the A64.

Carry on the A64 past York, until you hit Malton.Past Malton, and then take the A169 towards Pickering, and continue on the A169,over the North Yorkshire Moors and you drive straight into Whitby.

If your lucky when you go up the A169,you might see the trains on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which are used in Heartbeat.

Ken.

Up to Thirsk and then the A170 up Sutton Bank is the pretty route avoiding York

This is what Google maps comes up with: Using the M1.

If you’re in a wagon then don’t go that way through unless you’re very lightly loaded and the road is dry or you stand a good chance of getting stuck on Sutton Bank.
Not a problem if you’re in the car.

A1 to Dishforth then A168 to Thirsk then A170 to Pickering then A169 to Whitby
or

A1 to A64 york then A64 to malton then A169 through Pickering to Whitby
or

A1 to A168/ A19 towards Stokesley/ Gusiborough A172 then A171 to Whitby

best one i would suggest is York because thats the way I go after leaving the M62

but try just going the up the m1 saves on roundabouts and roadworks eg markem moor

Is sutton bank open? one of our drivers said it’s closed atm.

its open but not a road i make a habit of using loaded, bit better now with the antiskid surface on the corners but still a barsteward of a hill when its slippy,i did a fantastic bit of rally style driving down there a couple of winters a go with an empty 20" skelly  good job it was quiet cos the trailer spent more time sideways on the wrong side of the road than it did behind me
