No no no. That’s a reflection on Robs dress code - double breasted.

I find this thread quite interesting. Car driver in lane 2 M6 roadworks 50 limit doing 42mph and ■■■■■■■ everyone off.

So what’s the correct course of action? Hang back, paid hourly etc, etc…zzz. Truth of the matter is that most of us have either flashed the 2at out of the way or tailgated the ■■■■ to make them ■■■■ off out of the way. Is this professional behaviour? No, is it ■■■■■■■■!

Anyone on here gone through a 7.5t restriction when they should not have? Yep, most of us have worn the t-shirt.

Speeding? Course we have all done it. Got in the wrong lane? Yes. Pulled out & got the timing wrong? Course we have. Jumped a red light? Well it was still yellow not red (yeah, course it was :unamused: )

None of us drive well all the time, but the chap in question if I understand it correctly has CCTV fitted. I speak from experience when I say that members of the public WILL report him, so if his driving is crap, sooner or later it will catch up with him.

We are not the police. We are not TC’s, judges or neighbourhood watch. We have enough of our own problems as truckers being divided by w@nk employers without turning on each other. By and large I broadly agree with Cavey on most things, but I don’t on this one. Maybe Cavey is a nicer bloke than me (probably is because I prefer dogs to people), and it would bother him if this chap ends up hurting someone. As long as it’s not MY family I couldn’t give a toss.

You cannot control others…

Been thinking about this ‘grassing up’ stuff, bearing in mind what I said before about hating those types, but on the other hand once ringing Stobbies myself when it got personal.
Also how I MIGHT have dealt (with lot’s of consideration) with the o/p’s situation, IF I thought this guy was a danger to himself and worse everybody else… including me.

Old Grumpy arse reckons ‘‘A grass is a grass is a grass’’ but there are times when trying to prevent an accident or a death, if you are totally convinced, isn’t really ‘‘grassing’’ as such, it’s a wrestle with your conscience, and whether it is your place, or job to step in is arguable.

Bearing in mind what Beaver says about family, Whether anybody condemns me for ringing Stobbies does not phase me, (amazed I got no grief on here for it btw) I just imagined my daughter being pulled out of her car injured or worse…just because of some arse hole practicing bullying tactics in his truck.

Way I see it is this, if you see some random driver driving like a ■■■■ one day, even if he cuts you up or whatever,… let it go, move on, it could be just an isolated case or somebody having a bad day, we all have them and do bloody stupid things sometimes, so it aint your job to grass him up to the Police…end of.

If somebody is misbehaving at work ranging from nicking fuel, to booking extra time, or having a dodgy night out,… ■■■■ all to do with you, leave it to the boss to sort, and get on with your own job. …again end of.

Then we have examples like Luke’s , where some sort of intervention is a neccessity.
If somebody you work with is an absolute danger on the roads every single day, that is where the dillema sets in…Are you a grass or could you prevent some poor sod being topped by him? :bulb:

Oh dear, nightline has really got to you hasn’t he rob. Just forget your mass hysteria “going to kill someone” statement, the case Luke had put forward is totally different. It would have been irresponsible to not report that, this is just plain and simple grassing someone up who has a different driving style to someone else. Ever had a nervous passenger on a motorbike? Same principle applies.

I thought I made it quite clear, this is the third example of him driving like a ■■■ that I knew of. A fourth example that I now know, he’s banned from a customer’s premises because of his erratic driving.
It’s only a matter of time until it doesn’t have a happy ending. People will end up dead and he will end up in prison. Let’s hope it’s not someone YOU care about that he kills. He does after all drive the same roads you and your family do.

Needless to say, telematics and camera evidence is being viewed before a decision is being made. I’ve also told him that I reported his driving. I dare say it isn’t a secret in the yard either.

Cavey, I understand your reasoning, I cannot condone your actions but you have to do what you think is right. I personally disagree with your actions but this is no reflection on how serious the case is. Only you know and have witnessed the severity. I am speaking as I feel and I feel more could be done rather than running to the management. What are they going to do? Sack him or warn him. I think they will more likely sack him, even if they warn him, you are the one that started the ball rolling and you have not then done anything towards him killing anyone which you are trying to prevent. There are lots of drivers nowadays all too willing to run to the management to grass up their “mates” hoping they will look good to the managers. You only look like the type of person they wouldn’t want to work with either.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
i dont know what your bothering about.
you already said that you decided to grass up your fellow driver as he drives like a looney.
you seem now to be wanting to justify your actions.
some agree with you,and some like myself think by doing so then your just a jobsworth,tout/grass.
i personally wouldnt do it,and couldnt really care if he had an accident slaughtering a happy bus full of kids all carrying disabled kittens,as the bottom line is that its none of my business.
if i had to double man a trip with him, then that may be different and id refuse to go,but other than that, then id just let him get on with it.
in your position, then its nothing to do with you other than you cluck clicking and tut tutting with your other pals at work.
if he is that bad, then he will get done soon enough.

I’m extremely disappointed with some of the scaremongering on this thread by the usual paranoid fools with this “he’s going to kill someone, it might be your family” bollox!
The guy is a grass and there is no place for his ilk in modern society, I abhor his type!

Sadly there is a place in this modern society my friend. In fact its positively encouraged nowadays. Separate the plebs and keep them fighting amongst each other and they won’t worry about what our lords and masters are up to!

Good point, doesn’t mean I think it’s right though!

Exactly.

Same as all the hoo hah over supposed ■■■■■■ goings on in the house of ill repute following the Hollywood deviant ■■■■■■■■, its titillating non story fodder to keep the masses glued to the latest gossip, while the traitors in charge carry on betraying the people they are supposed to serve whilst their attention is taken by trivia.

Personally i couldn’t give a tuppeny’s which ladder climber is kneeling before and servicing whichever of the elite is in a position  to dish out career enhancements, whether this is politics or wannabe actors in Hollywood, such things have always gone on, they always will go on, power corrupts it always will, i just wish genuine people would stop worshipping the cult of celebrity power and image.

Away man, the day I take my old mate nightline seriously, will be the same day I’m sat on the floor in a corner dribbling and playing with a bucket of marbles.

Ok the ‘killing somebody’ thing is always over used for dramatic effect in these cases.
I was just saying that up to a point I can see what the o/p means by his ‘dilemma’.

As I said mixed feelings on this.
On one hand I wouldn’t grass anybody up if it had ■■■■ all to do with me.
On the other hand both you and I know if somebody is fit enough to drive a 44 tonner, AND if that same guy (that you know) habitually drives it like a ■■■■ every single day he takes it out, it’s only a matter of time until things go ■■■■ up, fact, either in a small way or an epic one.
So is it your place to involve yourself?
Then if a word in his shell doesn’t work,.and as long as it is not just down to ■■■■ stirring and malice, …you know what?..
I still really don’t know what the answer is

Do you let him crack on until…(dare I say it) he actually DOES kill somebody?

Or try and make him see the error of his ways with maximum damage limitation to ease your ‘‘not being a grass’’ conscience.

It’s one thing discussing a hypothetical situation on a forum, and it happening in real life, who knows, maybe in reality, I would do ■■■■ all, …and I know I’m back peddaling here faster than a clown on a unicycle.

It aint really black and white as I see it, and not the same as being a self appointed policeman type grass.
Some will disagree.
Think I’ve said enough on this.

I hope the bloke who ran to management is 100% squeaky clean, there is an old saying that says,
“nobody is indispensable.”

Tricky one this, our solution is to always sort this out amongst drivers. Mainly because as all our trucks look the same chances are driving like a ■■■■ reflects on us all.

A quiet word first, then if that doesn’t work gang ■■■■ the bugger round the back of the jetwash. Or at worst they have to double man with me for a night.

Never needed management involvement, mainly coz they may make a PC drama out of the whole affair if it goes to high up the corporate ladder.

If lower management do get involved often they will approach the drivers to have an off the record discussion with the culprit anyway.

Suppose it’s only a matter of time before a member of the public reports him thus removing the dilemma.

All this talk of ‘grasses’ is hilarious. I think some of you have been watching too much Sopranos & the like. You’re drivers, not international drug traffickers…well, most of you

Does any one remember the bin lorry in Glasgow, no one grassed on him.

alamcculloch:

This industry is filled with people who think it’s ok to drive tired/drunk/like a ■■■. That’s part of the reason why it’s in such a mess. Whilst drivers sit in the yard whining to each other, nothing will change.

I would have answered you with ‘Anymore of that and I’ll send the chaps round, and you’ll be propping up a bridge on the new by pass’’ but I got enough grief on here last time (off a certain member who will remain nameless) when I said something like that, when…he took me seriously, and reported me. :open_mouth: …I kid you not.

So I’ll have a word with Ron and Reg to keep the heat off you.

Well careful now rob, Cavey may run to the mods over your comment, I mean you might actually Kill someone and then it would always have been on his mind.He will do the right thing and report you. Anyways I can tell the mellowing down of your normal militant stance since your “mate” night night has schooled you. A shame but none the less it shows you have at least listened to him.
