Can anyone either confirm or deny that there’s a tolerance on the time of such things. Reason for asking is that the tacho in the bag of ■■■■■ DAF that I’m ocassionally saddlled with reads 6/7 minutes fast of GMT. (I check it with the time signal “pips” on the radio so I know it’s wrong.)
If true, am I liable to a fine if stopped by VOSA, and can anyone point me in the dirction of something official I can print out to shove up someone’s nose at work?
You can alter the time on the digital tachograph by 1 minute per day.
They say if it’s 15 mins or more out, you must take it to a dealer to get it changed.
As long as you’re having a minute over your hours off, I’d start altering it myself, don’t think you could get done, but I use it as a clock a lot and would like it to be right.
If it is more than 20 minutes out then it must be taken to be re-calibrated. Page 41 of GV262/03
20 minutes or more may attract a the attention of vosa if stopped but I don’t know what the penalty would be.

I assume you’re talking abut the UTC time being incorrect and not the local time ?
If this is the case then you can change it by + or - one minute per week.
If the digital tachograph is more than 20 minutes out on UTC time it must be set at a tachograph centre.
7 minutes out isn’t a problem but it will take you 7 weeks to put it right.

You can only alter the clock by one minute per week. If it is 20 minutes out it takes 20 weeks to put it right unless it is reset by an official workshop

On paper discs, there was a tolerance of two minutes either way. I don’t know if that extends to digi tachos as well, but I can’t see it changing. Digi tachos can gain or lose time so some tolerance has to be allowed. I think it could be in GV262, but I’m not sure.
I have a friend who did actually get a fixed penalty off vosa for his tacho being 5 mins out… i’m not sure how much leeway vosa gives but here it is in black and white,
Fail to ensure that the time recorded on the chart agrees with the official time
