The memory on a smart card will hold at least 28 days worth of activity, but can hold a lot more. The data is stored as simple transactions - for example, each entry might just have date/time, then activity. When the card is read, the software will put these in the correct order and do any analysis then. So if you don’t have many activity changes, it will record many more days than if the activity is changing every minute.
eg:
23/9/12 1400 Other work
23/9/12 1401 Driving
23/9/12 1402 Other work
etc
or
23/9/12 1400 Other work
23/9/12 1410 Driving
23/9/12 1840 Break
There will be other data on the card obviously, such as vehicle etc, but for the raw data of activities, it’s going to be something similar to how I’ve described it
Standard smartcard is only about 32kb of data from what I remember.

A driver card is designed to hold at-least 28 days worth of data, in reality it will hold many months of data for most drivers, it’s quite common for there to be about 9 or 10 months of data on a driver card before it starts being over-written.
Mine held years, when I was at Maritime, I was pulled by the plod in Norfolk and he commented on something I’d done in 2007 
After that, I put my card in a machine and went back as far as I could, and it went back to Nov 2007 - can’t remember exact date. But it was pretty much from when I’d got the digi card, which I’d got in around then in 2007 (due to expire end oct)
This was also 1 of the cards that went faulty, so unless they were using different chips or something, I think most cards will store years of info.

You can get a fixed penalty for offences in the last 28 days but as far as I’m aware you are not likely to be penalised for offences before that unless they were serious and/or regular.
By the way for a speeding offence the NIP should reach the vehicles registered owner within 14 days who should then return the NIP with the name of the person who was driving when the offence took place, so it could take longer than 14 days for a NIP to reach the driver 
It depends where you drive, if you drive in London a lot and you’re stop, start, stop, start all day then you’re using more recording space than if you’re on the motorway cruising

i start use present card in january.just this month start overwriting.so by my activities card was remembers about some 120-140 day.

It has to hold more than that … think about how long your allowed to hold tacho’s before handing them in…
my card holds 10 months of data…

The invention is already there, a tachograph itself. As soon as they get a bit older and are not needed on end of life vehicles and there’s spare ones knocking about then i’d guess people will start using them as an unofficial card wiping service, we’ll just have to wait a bit.

Certainly true about Asda as for Framptons they’re normally pretty good but sometimes the line does go down for a while especially weekends.
