digital tacho problem

if i turn the ignition key whilst on break the tacho unit cancels any break and goes to other work, either starting the truck, turning it off or just putting ignition on, is there anything i can do to stop this or is it a dealer job… ta

I needs resetting by a tacho centre, its the older unit that do it from what I understand, it would do my head in if I had one doing it.

As wildfire says, it is a setting in the tacho unit that can be set either to change to other work when the ignition is turned on, or it can be set to stay on break. Some companies prefer to have it set one way, some, the other…Right pain in the proverbial if happen to turn on the ignition to wind down the window part way through your break…!!!

If you hit the mode button straight away, you can switch it straight back to Break without any interruption to your 45 minutes. Has to be done within a few seconds though.

cheers all, thats what happened friday 30 mins into a 45 and i decide to talk a walk turn key to off returned to cab and tacho had gone onto other work… would,nt have been so bad but i,m job and knock lol…

I always thought it was done on revolution of wheel , II’ve managed whilst in a que in yard too move up a bit at a time and still be on break at the end of it without pushing button on taco ,same as comming off bay ,if your carefull you can move forward enough too close doors whilst still on break

Yes, a small movement may not be enough to switch it to “Drive”. But that’s not what the OP was asking about. His tacho has been set up to always switch to “Work” every time the ignition is switched on (even if the engine is not started)- it is this issue that I was addressing.
