Digicard failure epidemic?

Are DHL still not allowing people with no card to drive?

Winseer:
Cards that don’t expire until 2013.

Wrong.

Mine expires on 09/01/2013, and mine is kaput.

Ken.

Was in a DHL run yard yesterday and they had obtained some reference number from swansea to give to affected card holders incase they get stopped so they can prove card faulty and when it went faulty.

Mine has been sent back faulty code 48 and that has an april 2013 expiry

What happens when the new card comes as it won’t have the last 28 days info on it. Do I need to print it off the office computer and carry it with me?

No, the 28 day thing is for charts and legally required printouts not digi cards.

be able to produce at the roadside:
— charts and any legally required manual records for the current day and the previous 28 calendar days; and
— the driver’s digital smart card if they hold one

The bit above says you must produce your digi card if stopped but doesn’t say how much data must be on it.

If stopped VOSA will know it is a replacement card and if they want to go back further than what is on the card they can get that information from your downloads.

Summary so far seems to be 60 & 61 plates don’t work.

I don’t know if this is just on Mercs or if that includes Dafs and other tractors as well.

Are both Stonebridge and Siemens card devices affected?

We seem to be all agreed that it is only affecting cards with an expiry later this year.

NOT AFFECTED SO FAR are:-

12 plates, 59 plates (58 and lower too?)
Cards already renewed in the last 12 months.
Cards that don’t expire until 2013.

If anyone can add some facts to this list, now’s the time. I reckon this will take at least a week to sort out as if involves a recall of either tractor units to have the faulty card reader replaced/repaired and/or our digicards being replaced, which I believe involves us all sending the old card back to swansea before getting a replacement.

I would imagine such a replacement would have it’s charge waived by DVLA as a show of good faith for this monumental ■■■■-up! :frowning: :frowning:

yes, the old paper cards, they are not affected at all… happy days…

mine got rejected today 61 plate merc fine though in the 57 plate iveco

Got my replacement card today after only 6 days postal turnaround.

Looked at the expiry date… No refund of postage (recorded delivery) and they’ve left it as a shiny new card with an october 2012 expiry! :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

They should have renewed it for 3 years for free as a way of saying “sorry” to all us drivers out there for what was 100% THEIR monumental ■■■■-up at DVLA!  :imp: :imp:

FFS - there’s going to be some of you folks out there who’ll get a “new” card back that expires at the end of this month, or even MARCH just finished!!!

Words cannot describe how @[$8&2ed off I am right now.

2 from our firm both got this problem last night, mine expires 08/06/2013. Pain in the arse as I wont be home till Sunday to download the form and post it all off.

I have had to show 4 drivers now how to put in a new roll :open_mouth: Who is going to ‘re-imburse’ the hauliers for the tacho rolls ? If you are using decent ones they can cost £5 for a box of 3 and the rate the bigger firms are going through them with double shifts etc and print outs at the end and beginning of the shift they must be costing a few hundred quid extra !!!

To be honest though, this situation coupled with the ‘ooh tanker drivers can drive more hours if they want to now’ just goes to show what we are up against. Rules changed to suit themselves.

UPDATE LATEST

I had a faulty card also yesterday.
Phoned 030790-6109, option 1.
As of today there is no need to send in the old card and complete form D777B
Hang onto your old card and just log your details with them and they are sending out new cards, current turnaround 5 working days.

Wow looks like 2 cards in my possession.
Instructed to destroy the old card.

Interesting!

Mine cost me a tenner for 3 from Lymm truck stop years ago, no idea of current prices, if I use 1 of mine, I see the office staff and get a new 1 off them.

It is a joke, why haven’t they just put a 5yr renewal on it, I didn’t pay postage, took it into DVLA office near my house, did it Wed afternoon, card was back Monday morning.

yep i rang them they said the same as above

Seems DVLA will be sending out new cards to all concerned forthwith no matter the expiry date just to make sure… I suppose?

The way different firms are dealing with this is interesting to watch as well… Can anyone shed any light on the rumour that DHL are diverting their work outside the firm because they’ll not let their drivers out on the road without a valid tacho? What about other large fleet operators like Nobbys, Royal Mail, or even Stobarts? :exclamation: How are THEY dealing with all this at an official level? :open_mouth:

Did agency at Stobart Teesport, last week , told to do printouts

Mind you…it expires on the 14th april

08 Plate Volvo today - put card in (exp April 2013), it kicked it back out. Put it in again, did the usual YES / NO etc, it then said ERROR DRIVING WITHOUT CARD, I ok’d that, it then said ERROR INVALID CARD. I ok’d that and it went away, all was normal. Downloaded it in the traffic office at the end of the shift, all was fine, no missing info etc.

On a different truck yesterday, card invalid, driving without card. Bleedin marvelous. Driving back in the afternoon it suddenly ejected my card and started flashing up security breech. WTF. Cannot even do any printouts as all it is saying is no data!
Hopefully my own motor will be back tomorrow afternoon so will try it in that.

oh forgot to mention…the management said I had to have no card in and set the printer to vehicle data

Put mine back in my usual truck yesterday, no problem whatsoever, strange!
