As title really. I have been reading some ssow. when it comes to disengaging the trailer brake it saw to push it in and hold it in for at least 10 seconds. Is this a different type to what i have come across before because all i normally do is push it in and let go.
i think you mean the shunt button mate…
Is this…
Concerning a skeleton trailer?
If it is, I know what you’re doing wrong.
definitely the trailer brake big red button. The ssow is for coupling the trailer so i assume they mean any trailer… In my case it will be a fridge box
copy and paste of part of the ssow
- Attach the trailer number plate correctly; if you are using the backing plate type ensure the chain is attached
to the side so it doesn’t obstruct the view of the number plate Be aware of uneven ground and take
extra care in inclement weather. - Check the load is strapped, and it is safe to travel. If it is not safe get it reloaded prior to leaving the depot.
- Make sure the rear doors are closed correctly If it is a sealed trailer check the seal number against the POD.
- DO NOT JUST APPLY THE TRAILER BRAKE BUTTON AND WALK AWAY.
- To disengage the trailer parking brake push in the red button. Hold the button as you do this for 10 seconds.
DO NOT RELEASE THE BUTTON IMMEDIATELY. - Complete a final check of the fifth wheel engagement before returning to the cab. Reset the air suspension to
the running level. Check all gauges before moving off. Remember seat belts must be worn.
When you move off ensure you feel no movement of the cages/load.
No it’s saying stand there for at least 10 secs for the brakes on the trailer to fully release and be prepared to pull it back on if the combination starts to roll.
When you press the park brake in it takes at least 5 secs for the brakes to fully release.
It’s health and safety mumbo jumbo to keep you safe if you forget to set the unit park brake.
