Diesel stolen and curtains slashed

That’s right, it was Trevor that went out with Rosa, i think he had terminal lung cancer when I met him, or had some disease, he did die later on I heard.

I also heard about the pescado ( fish) incident at Victor’s,with The Animal ,and I found Simon (Thin man with a beard) to be very serious and never smiled much, but they did do a cracking meat and potato soup with crusty bread, in the cold winter months it was absolutely delicious.

The family that were from Galicia had a nice restaurant by the Repsol garage for homemade and traditional dishes from Northern Spain, you could have octopus and squid dishes.(Not Victor’s).

Next to Victor’s was the Stark or Star club for horizontal entertainment or just buy a drink and leer at the lasses in their underwear or bikini’s .

I used to have a hot bath in the big hotel in same parking area, once again a nice experience in the cold weather and only a few pesetas.

When I looked in Google Satellite Earth, it seems the hotel is no more.

By crossing the footbridge by Victor’s there was a medieval village with cobblestoned streets , no drivers walked there for any exercise, the area had beautiful views in the summer with the corn fields and the snow in the winter.

John Vassey, that’s the man, and MSN did cover the story about him.

Yep same Trevor.

I liked Simon, he didn’t laugh much but running a retso with a load of foreign truckers was serioius work!
I was told he won big on the lottery and started a bar in Burgos as a hobby rather than keep the resto going. The next people I remember in there were an ex-waitress, Cristina (very blonde with a penguin tattoo) and her Dutch ex driver fella.
I was that way a couple of years back and it was closed.
At about the same time I looked for Miguel’s at the top of the mountain but the road has changed a lot, it was dark and snowing so I carried on down the mountain.

I liked Miguel’s.
And the mountain road from Pamplona to Irun before they put in the new road with tunnels, viaducts and made some parts a dual carriageway.
Hair pin bends and brake fade territory.

Long time, no see welcome back unless of course you have been active somewhere else on here recently. How is John these days? :joy:

I loved Miguels! They were particularly good for a lunch time stop. I occasionally used the one further down called the Alaska. And there was a big one at the bottom of the mountain at Alsasua.

Yep. Used them, and also the one with the small parking up from the Alaska. A white 3(?) storey building.
The Alaska had centarl fireplace didn’t it? MInd you several did now I seem to remember?
There was also one in a turn off near the bottom of the hill. Used by the Poppy Tops.

Spoilt for choice around there.

Edit to add The R&G drivers were a very good source of info for restaurants on the Portugal routes.
I think @shady is/was one of them? He hasn’t been around TNUK for a while now.

It was Ian from R&G that later ran or owned a pub.Stevie Holland was Shady, not been on here for a while,

The Alaska was good pit stop.

Still about just not as much since they put together this new forum which I have a dislike for

John is doing ok looking after camp sites in UK somewhere he keeps moving

Thanks love, pleased to hear that, remember me to him will you?

I was sorry not to meet you and your late Dad when I was in Sunderland some years back, but my hosts in the city ran me off my feet visiting all the places my Sunderland family used to inhabit. That was my Grandma’s family, the Woodhills, and they moved to Manchester when he got the job of pilot on the new Ship Canal, which is where Lily probably met my Welsh Grandad who had emigrated there from Llanelly. :joy:
