Diecast Truck Models

I used to when I delivered Matchbox /Dinky etc because we got colectables dirt cheap. Matchbox once made a special edition Scammel low loader with a steam loco on the trailer, it was very detailed and there was one on the transport desk in Fed Ex. I asked the managin director of Matchbox if I could have one and he said they only made a few and they were very rare so no chance. That summer I walked through the back streets in St Helier, Jersey and found 2 for sale in a shop window for only 35 quid each, I phoned the man at matchbox up and he told me to get both and he himself would buy one from me, I did and he gave me a 100 quid for his… even he couldn’t get one from the company.
I collected a Model of yesteryear every month and left them all with my Son when I emigrated.

Latest release from John Ayrey Die-Casts Ltd due to the interest in the Edward Beck web site

Thanks

Both my Dad and my brother used to drive trucks (well my brother still does). Dad did until he was 68 years old, but he passed away this year aged 70 leaving a large collection of diecast models. There are lots of matchbox buses and Dinky and Corgi cars and buses but his main passion was 1:50 scale trucks (including Gescha, Tekno, Conrad, etc).

I remember playing with these two as a kid. The Scammell was a rare Co-0p promotional model - it just came in the cardboard box, not in the typical Corgi box with cellophane or anything:

Dad also commissioned some hand built models in maroon and grey livery and there are some terrific models there:

The above and loads more are currently up for auction on Toymart (the hand built truck auction has it’s own special tab). I’ve kept some items back as keepsakes but simply don’t have room for everything else and really want them to go to someone who shares a passion or just wants a keepsake of a truck they used to drive.

There are also a handful of hand built cars. I love this one. You just wouldn’t believe how heavy it is in the hand:

Hope you like them all as much as I do.

I’ve got two of the Co-op Scammells along with the Commer panel vans and milk floats.

Anyone know anywhere that builds the 1:50 truck scale models or preferably bigger? I would like to get my dad built a one of his Scania 143 for his birthday  cheers

This Leyland Roadtrain Interstate tractor unit is a Smiths white metal kit. The unit was then hand-painted in our family fleet colours , and given the name of Country Queen `.

The semi-trailer started life as a Corgi T.N.T. box , and was resprayed with an industrial paint .

The waterslide decals replicate the style of signwriting which adoored the cab doors of every one of our
wagons , from 1946 until 1993.

hi there where did you get the roadtrain from and how much was it,p.s cracking model ,karl

Hi lovesponge,
The Leyland Roadtrain unit is a white metal kit .
The kit was purchased from Alan Smith Auto Models ( ASAM ) about 10 years ago.
I cannot remember the exact price , but it was in the region of £35.00.
I think there is a Website for ASAM . Perhaps someone reading this can help , please ?

Thank you for your kind comment, and Good Luck .

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Hi Sir+,
Thank you for your quick response , re: ASAM .

@gouls, the Co-op Scammell came with 2 Commer PB vehicle’s on the trailer, one was a standard van and the other had a milk float type of body. I paid about £1.50 for it new at a local petrol station in 1974 and sometime in the late 80’s early 90’s a guy at Gaydon ? wanted £70.00 for just the unit & trailer, and it wasn’t in good condition or boxed. When I told him I’d had the full lot, vans as well, he said if I still had it it could be worth almost anything at auction :open_mouth: Needless to say I no longer had any of it left I’d lost the van’s, or my ex had slung them when we split up, and I had sold the Scammell unit & trailer for £30.00 doing a car boot sale in 87.

Sorry @gouls this post should be for @gray t, I see you’ve got 2 of the whole outfit, must be worth a small fortune to the right collector.

They make great models and are far superior to Corgi. I have 50+ WSI in my collection now and they are more robust than Tekno but I think Tekno have the edge on paintwork/printing. The only problem I find with WSI is the packaging, I have had about half a dozen models arrive with some form of damage although it’s usually only minor things that are easily repairable.

The guy from Greece (George) is great to deal with and often models arrive as quickly as ones I’ve bought from UK sellers.

cheers mate, well ive got a few now, im getting quite addicted!
