Diary - Container driver/BTCC truckie....with pics!

A quick diary of my last week

A quick check over on the Saturday before

Tuesday morning headed for Stallingborugh for 7.00am. Always a quick tip there so I’m soon back on the road going towards Corby.

Loading at Corby.

Then it was further south again to Tilbury.

Leaving Tilbury after a pretty quick turn around but the queue to get in when I was leaving was pretty big

Then it was into Cambridge services for the night. Mmmm….Pizza Hut

Wednesday
Only thirty miles to cover this morning, so it’s a latish start considering I parked up early. Wagon checked over and I’m heading to Weetabix at Burton Latimer.
I got in the back of the container on the pallet truck to get the job done quicker.
One hour and thirty mins later I’m on the road back to Tilbury.

Only in Tilbury ten minutes and I’m back out empty with no container. Further south once more I’m going to Quest racing in Kent. Not really an HGV/LGV friendly track down to the workshop which is made worse by the fact you have to reverse down as you can not turn round at the bottom. Trailer dropped and a team member picked up its off to kimbolton to pick this up

Hooked up and back to Kent where I spend the night. It’s a lot nicer to wake up to this than a truck stop or industrial estate!

Thursday
It’s a slow day for me today as all I have to do is load the truck up whilst the team wait for an engine, that only left Italy yesterday morning. Hurray! The engine turns up! So as they fit that I make sure we have everything.

Finally come 8pm the car is loaded up! Tacho in and I leave at 8.15pm, on my own because everyone else is going straight to the hotel and I wont be there till late. Arrive at Croft Circuit at 2.30am and its straight to bed.

Friday

Parked at Croft on Friday morning waiting for parking

VXR boys

They make you park up mm perfect. Something I’m not used to!! Wash the truck and take the unit off to be parked up at another part of the circuit. Then do all Truckie jobs for the rest of the weekend.

Sunday evening, all packed up and time to go home.

Way to go !! Cool !!

Nice one.

Did you not get the unit round the track then ■■

Dude just HOW do you get into that BTCC work ■■ Looks like the dream job ! I’d cut something off to get into that sort of work ! ( Yes… sad, but true ! ) Seriously, what are the ‘Truckie’ jobs you have to endure all wekend ? I’d put up with to get into that sort of work !

Dream on eh… back to the frozen for me !

Nice one.

Thanks guys.

what are the ‘Truckie’ jobs

Normally its tyres, but we already have a tyre man so i do fuel, setting up the pit wall/garage and using the pit board.

Great read - good pics. Nice one

Nice diary Jedimaster. It’s years since I’ve been to Croft, used to be a regular for testing aswell as racing. I don’t know what garages you were in front of, but I seem to remember that it could be a tight squeeze in front of the far garages, especially if the others had already parked up.

Yes it was pretty tight. We were in the second last garage at the far end and they had parked the wagons up starting at the other end. so it was a reverse all the way.

Ahhhh…So the less glamorous side of your life is spent as one of our subbies…Which one are you then? Give me a shout next time you see me on the dock.

Good read and pics

Great diary!!

You looking for any more drivers■■? :stuck_out_tongue:

“A week of two halves” is the phrase that comes to mind!

Good photos and read, ta!
