DHL

why does a big fleet like them have such scruffy motors? plain white units with a lopsided dhl sticker on the doors, blue trl with ripped curtains etc etc.

Down Hill Logistics, a byword for corner cutters and chancers.

The units and trailers are hired in because we are a wee bit busy just now.

My unit gets handed over to the night trunker and is off out the door within an hour of me getting back to the depot and in the morning if my trailer is ready then im off asap.

If i get the chance i’ll wash the unit a couple of times a week, my only gripe is that when we moved to a new depot they didn’t put in or bring with them the drive through wash so the trailers dont get washed at our depot and we can only hope that they get washed when they are down south.

because they are trying to show a profit

Suppose its all down to the contract too that they are servicing they run a lot of brand spanking new stuff and run a lot of run down stuff on others. DHL is a awful complicated business structure what i mean there is lots of different divisions.

I can guarantee there are no ripped blue, or any other colour, curtains on any of the trailers I pull. Some of the units I drive are white with stickers and some are yellow with stickers.

But the wages are good for the work and I’ll take that with scruffy tackle over crap money with non scruffy tackle any day.

If you think some of the trucks with DHL stickers on are scruffy you should see some of the DHL trucks that don’t visibly go under the DHL banner :open_mouth:

We always have plain white units, we only keep them 2 yrs, trailers are tatty 15 yrs old but currently have 18 new ones on order (dedicated to one customer on our job)
No pressure, no timed deliveries, wages are average, easy job really, usual H+S bull but thats everywhere these days, I have no complaints.

I can never figure things like this out myself ? The US postal service as huge as it is uses tatty contractors for all it’s main inter city transport, scruffy looking wrecks with just stickers on the trailers and trucks, you would expect the worlds richest country with an organisation as big as the US mail would have some pride.

DHL seems to have all but vanished here, about 2 years ago they shut down all domestic services and laid of about 8,000 people. I did get my passport delivered last week by a guy in a DHL jacket and sign for a DHL package, didn’t see his van.

i do a bit of subbie work for them through my boss here in australia, i prefer the term d1ck head logistics

The part of US Mail that the customer sees is the mail man, no one bats an eye at a truck pounding down the freeway or delivering to a mail sort center so the choice of contractor doesn’t really matter as long as they get the job done on time. We have plenty of plain old trailers and ex rentals as well as plain white tractors but no-one takes any notice, what they care about is whether their parcel is delivered. I’m the face of the company so to speak as i’m the one everyone sees day in day out.

As for DHL, their International operation is still going but i believe they use mostly private contractors in the US now as there isnt the work to employ their own drivers anymore

Worked a few shifts for DHL at Hatfield over the Xmas period, only got to drive new Renaults and Mercs and not one " scruffy motor "
Some of the trailers they had in over Xmas had seen better days, but what the hell, pulled a lot worse in the past.
Job was a good un
