DHL RDC Assessments

Anyone, I recently passed a DHL assessment for one of their sites and was told at the time that I wouldn’t need to do an assessment for any of their other sites as this drivers assessment carries forward. Contacted an agent today regarding work at Sainsburys East Kilbride and was informed I would need to do a drivers assessment again for that site with DHL… confused… anyone had experience of this… who is right?

It could be just an Induction as working practices and H&S varies site to site. did you get a card saying you passed drivers assessment ■■

They mentioned getting a card but they said not sure whats happened with that process… they said my details would be on the system though… I get it if it was just a Health & safety and site proceedures induction, but the guys said I would not need to do a further drivers assessment… oh well, just need to go for the drive again I suppose.

you aint made sense there ■■

They are telling you the truth even though sainsburys use all the standard forms for agency like ops 13 and 15 as Bellshill, cambuslang, westfield do, they still make you do another and it’s one of the most intensive in the area. A few year back if you did the trunking you didn’t need assesed again as you fell under the Bellshill radar but you dont now.

Ask your agency for the answers to the quiz as you won’t even get out the gate unless you pass and that goes for the drugs, alcohol and eyesight test. Driver trainer is a guy called Tom I found him to be ok (the top thing he looks out for as they all have their own is to do a life saver check every time you come to a stop and drive off again)

Cheers mate… need to go find what agencies feed into the Bellshill, cambuslang, westfield sites.

You would not happen to know what agencies feed these sites and what the sites are?

I worked with Forde recruitment and they did the trunks out of bellshill, coatbridge and sainsburys ek. I think pertemps does westfield, jark do Bellshill aswell. Maybe someone else might know the agency scene better than me as it was over a year ago when I was on agency.

East Kilbride is sainsburys stand alone site
Cambuslang 1 is B&Q
Cambuslang 2 is tradeteam
Bellshill 1 is shared user, everything under the sun is in there
Bellshill 2 I don’t know what’s in there air freight or summit
Coatbridge is a shared site boots and Poundland
Westfield is a shared site M&S and tkmaxx

Other sites further afield but they are the local ones.

I worked at East kilbride, Bellshill 1 and Westfield can’t speak for the rest of the sites but I didn’t have any problems. Just came in did a shift and went home nobody bothered you.

Yeah, your info is correct, the card is sometimes called a DHL passport.
I have a DHL (agy) card, having done a full assessment at 1 on their sites I was issued with a card bearing my name, photo, date of assessment etc. It means I can work on another site.
The cards are meant to be valid for 1 year from the date of issue, (iirc mine was issued march 14) then a re-assessment is meant to be undertaken to update their records. but in reality getting re-assessed takes longer, and is generally only done when they`re pushed to do it, also its normal for me to get 8hrs minimum paid when I do it, for what only takes 2hrs to do (classroom videos/test & test drive)

Last year I was asked to go to another site (M&S) where the transport was DHL, but the site was Nobbies. So despite having the "passport, I had to sit through a site induction for a couple of hours (paid) to satisfy Nobbies safety ■■■■`s

One thing I have learned is that DHL grew so rapidly from various companies that it still does not have a standard policy through out all the DHL companies.

Some want copies of your licence and a 25 page history and some leave the keys under the wheel arch. One assessment/test will not satisfy all DHL.

Thanks folks all good info.

Cowboy DHL site I work at… No driving assessments at all, agency come in, get give keys and away they go. DHL policy changes every day where I work, it has quickly became all about doing the job quickly.

Did you work out of all these DHL sites? If Yes, how did you like Westfield, and B&Q? thinking of moving on from where I am, quite liked working for DHL up until a month or two ago, as mentioned above, the management are now obsessed with speed, and saving minutes here, there and everywhere

I worked at East kilbride doing sainsburys, Bellshill shared user site doing howdens and shared user and Westfield doing m&s/tkmaxx/containers.

Westfield is a holiday camp really chilled out atmosphere, never rushed. As long as you get to the stores on time (the times are very reasonable) you’ll not get any hassle.

Not worked at B&Q but would like to get my foot in the door as its right on my door step practically and it looks a good number but it’s never came up.

Also worked for nobbies at mossend it was hell on earth much prefer the way Dhl operate.

Also I’ve never heard of this Dhl passport, maybe it’s not came up north yet?

Yeah, Westfield is on my door step, need to get a word with someone in the know, on getting a transfer or secondment in there. Didn’t know DHL done containers… from westfield?

Yeah not a lot of container work though they have 4 skellys, pick up from either eurocentral or Grangemouth. It’s all m&s stuff, it goes back to the depot and gets broken down into various shops but sometimes full stores come up in containers and you go straight to the shop with one. They do a few other bits and bobs out that site aswell like highland spring water, amazon, currys, Argos but you don’t get to see in the trailer so who knows what’s in the back.

Aw right, guess that explains the Twist Locks on the Ops13 then. Any truth to the rumours about the Westfield site closing soon?

Only thing I know is what I overheard in the canteen etc so may or may not be true, that M&S own the site and they put it up for sale ealry last year but still no takers. None of the guys in there seem worried though, few of them thought it was a blinking contest to get a bargain and as soon as a offer was made by a buyer - Dhl would step in with their own offer to buy it.

I had an assessment at DHL/Sainsbury’s, Dartford and was told by the assessor that this would count at all DHL but when I started at DHL/Lidl, Northfleet they insisted it didn’t count and had to have another assessment. Mind you, I quite enjoyed it, a nice leisurely 45 min drive.
