Hi Folks, Harry Dent was Married to Olga Proud,
Old Bill
kennyjohnson:
Dents first 8 wheeler UUP 762 loaded with Ringtons tea.Its first load was 15 ton of Armstrong Cork and topped off in the warehouse with 10 ton of carpets.Rodger had it new. It has a Birmingham office number on the front
The mention of Ringtons brings back memories, Waughs also loaded tea for them, I think from the Isle of Dogs?? sorry brains gone into limp mode. I do remember though that it was all handball for a lot of years. Those old tea chests would rip your clothes to ribbons, not to mention your wrists even with gloves, (that you supplied yourself as the tight-assed gaffers wouldn’t buy them). If I remember correctly when you finished tipping at Ringtons they always slipped you a tip 20p I think big deal!! Also if it was raining you couldn’t take your sheets off until you were inside, then you had to drag them outside to roll them up. That was another ball-ache trying to get past the wheels without getting the bloody things caught.
Ah!! the good old days. regards Kev. Ps sorry to ■■■■ into your thread but the memories are flooding back.!!!
hi kevmac
when you mention getting a tip of about 20p off ringtons it reminds me of a job we used to
do out of cigarette components of simonside ind est up to the wills factory (i think) at stirling,
after you were tipped and you called at the gatehouse on the way out you always got a packet of ■■■■
happy days regards alan
Hi Folks, What about the pre-sleeper cab days, some of those digs!
Tonys and Brays in Mansell Street, the Crossroads in Walsall, Kates Cabin, the Pavilion in Perth,The Garston Diner, and the two at South Mimms.
Sorry but I’ve forgot the names of those two.The Pavilion in Perth was an old Roller Skating Rink with about 50 beds all in one big room.
Just imagine that now. Those were the days boys. Can any one think of any more ‘‘Good Ones’’
Old Bill

Yeah, known Tommy for a good few years,he was at Sadlers and came to Stillers where i worked when we took them over, we where on the same contract at Petroplus,we lost some of the work to P & O so Tom went over to them, and they lost it again to Suttons so he moved again and i think he is still there,i’m retired now but i was told that Suttons had pulled out the job this last week so he might of moved on again.Vic.
