Well you know what they say, ‘‘You can’t do enough for a good gaffer’’
Bill
This was Dents first 88, Rolly Dodds got it new. looks like Roger’s sign writing, no wonder they started to use stickers, but they had no class either.

Hi Kenny, if I remember rightly wasn’t there two 88’s and two 86’s came about the same time (1968). Roly got one and I think Bill Rooker the other f88. Tony Davidson got an f86, not sure who got the other, possibly Tony Crooks. Regards Ronnie.
Hi Ken,
Nice shot of the F88. Was its mate the day cab which ended up becoming the wrecker? The others I remember were the sleeper cabbed 240 (RUP???M) which became the yard shunter (i’ve a photo of it somewhere) and the 290 with the wide grille which is in the photo behind Dad’s burnt out Atki on page 4. I think Harry Fergie drove this one for quite a while.
Here’s another photo for all to enjoy. Handsome motor, but can the same be said of the driver!!!
Darren.

The 86’s were F reg’s when they first came Roger and Mike Gowland drove them for a while taking logs to Leominster. Then Tony Davidson and Des Mitchell got them. Rolly’s 88 was a H reg. Then Bill Goudie got the next 88 it had a day cab.

A few more photos of Dents motors, starting with the 290 volvo. awaiting your comments.
Ken.
Nice Photos Ken and good to see some more of the Fords which look good no matter what’s stuck on them!
What was the registration of the red Ford? I can only ever remember PAJ, RHN (which were white) and OPT (which was yellow then repainted white). They all had the three factory stripes. That one looks to be a V-reg but none of these were. Was one of them painted red, white and blue at some point?
I remember when the two DAF 95’s came in late 1988. All they got was the matt grey chassis/wheels painted over with gloss black and the ‘upmarket’ red, white and blue stickers put on the doors and fronts. Rolly got F163SEF in the photo (you can see his confederate flag pinned up) and Stretch Armstrong got its mate F???UEF.
Darren.
Hi Folks. I think that the red ford was driven by Gerry Kenny but he tipped it over with a load of Melinate on Aycliffe flyover and it came back with a white cab. The new cab had two side lights above the windscreen, something the others never had. If I’m not mistaken, the two Daf 95’s were on lease and they were the first to go when the proverbial hit the fan. I don’t know who had the 290 Volvo when the photo was taken as the Reg is hard to see.
Going back to OPT 900, That photo was taken at Spennymoor Gala when I used to pull the float for Trinity Church. It was ahead of it’s time when it was new, it had a 270 engine and the cab was mounted on 4 coil springs giving a very smooth ride. It took a bit of getting used to when I first got it as the cab would lie over a lot when cornering While I had it on demonstration, I remember I was coming up the M6 when the steering locked up. I managed to get onto the hard shoulder and it was recovered to Bristol Street Motors in Birmingham. A bearing had collapsed and jammed the steering column.

After talking to Keith Atkinson, He informs me that Roly got the red Ford Transcon new, then he got a new one in white and Gerry Kenny got the red one. I was correct when I said that Gerry tipped it over at Aycliffe.
Old bill
Yes Bill, I remember when Gerry rolled over at Aycliffe. It’s a wonder that more didn’t go over with that stuff on the back.
Darren
Remember regular Mon Mornings would usualy join in the Convoy south with Melinate 2or 3 for Walthamstowe couple for Northfleet etc etc, into Lizzies at Grantham for Brekkie a bit crack, when we came out whoosh you were off, (our F7`s 54mph) left us. That is till one morning running with Magic he had to break hard at Peterboro rounabout, bang everything into the headboard, straps snapped the lot, I pulled in the layby other side of roundabout with Gordon nothing I could do so of I went, 1st time I had got wherever we were going !st on a mon morning
( seem to remember posting this story before old age I think)
