Sorry Bill a slip of the index finger. Regards Ken.

Hi John, I think that the guy that you took to Hospital was named Eddie Atkinson and the accident was near Derby, Roger told me to get the Radio out of the wreckage, I don’t know why.I must have arrived shortly after you left to take him to Hospital.
Bill

Been watching Eddie Stobart, Trucks and Trailers! What a load of Rubbish. How the hell did we ever manage to find some of those Farms in the middle of nowhere without Mobile Phones,Sat Navs, Etc. They make it out to be such a hard job, If they had to drive the old Atkis that we had and load and unload everything by hand, And put three sheets on,They would know what a hard job was.
Bill

Hi Bill Yes it was approaching Ripley as I remember, Eddie was in quite a state and taken to a hospital by Ambulance, I’m sure they took him into Birmingham rather than Derby for some reason, he had tried to get out of the way, but it all happened to quick, I was also behind Maurice when he braked at Dishford sending his 20t coil of steel rolling down the trailer and landing in his bunk…very lucky man. As I remember, we didn’t do too bad at Dents with accidents, when I was running the 80’ piles out of Scunthorpe, CLS was loosing drivers left, right and centre.

i remember a 60ft belonging to A1 transport coming into our yard, (i dont know why) but bungalow sent me to glasgow with it, tip and reload off A1 up there and home, i thought it was a street of houses compared
to our 40fts, but hell!!! 80ft that is a handfull, especially with something like pile sheets on board :unamused:

alan

Biggest I ever pulled was 45 ft,dead jealous.

Does anyone know what happened to Joe Geary? He was a Bishop Auckland lad who started at Dent’s about1966 on local deliveries and then on to distance work. The last I heard of him he was driving for a firm called Linsley or something like that, about the early 70’s. Always had something to sell did Joe. Hope someone can shed some light on him. Regards Ronnie.

Joe worked for Jackie Copeland for a while working out of Wavins late 80s & then I think he did a bit for Dot Bowman running to Spain, about all I know never heard much about him since Mysteron. Never seen Robbie mentioned on here cant remember his second name smoked a pipe ended up on Wright`ys Tow Law with Mick, missus had a pub or something & sold up. I did a couple of month for Wrights before he sold up to Dutham City & Robbie was away on a world Cruise expecting to start back at Wrights when he came back
Bill or Alan will Know who i mean.

I remember Maurice`s accident at Dishforth. Lucky he never had an Atki eh?

Joe Geary? Blimey I remember the name, but cant put a face. I seem to remember him from my time at Charlie Browns.

Colin.

You are right there Cheekymonkey, if maurice had been driving anything else other than the F88, he wouldn’t be here now, a very lucky man.
Wasn’t it Joe Geary who kept getting strung up in the garage and having his balls greased?

I do remember a young`un getting repeatedly greased, but not sure if it was him…

hi all

joe gearry
he has certainly been around the jobs since i got to know him.
he was at dents then moved on to direct transport a couple of times with several in between,
he did work for jackie copeland for a good spell, and then went to colway tyres at meadowfield, then on to a few others including dorothy bowman, i used to see him from time to time as he did move house to
willington but it has been a few years since the last time i saw him.

greek
robbie is still going strong, see him every christmas, he no longer smokes the pipe or anything else
he did have a heart scare but seems to have fairly well recovered, after working for wrights he then
went to dickinsons but was a mistake and now works for an agency

alan

Joe Geary drove a Tanker for quite a while but i can’t remember the name of the firm I think it was from the Derbyshire area.
Bill

yes , you may well be right bill, he has had a fair few jobs

going back to robbie for the greek.

Joe was always a bit of a character, he was the first Driver to speak to me on my first day at Dents. He asked me if I had ever been arrested or been in Jail or had a criminal record. When I replied No to all three, he said ‘‘How the hell did you ever get a job here’’
Bill

Dents first new Atkis were bought at Theater Garage Sunderland, DGR962,3,4 and 5. This is one of them waiting to tip at Birkinghead docks, slightly overloaded.Alot of the motors were put to work befor they were painted. Des Mitchell was the driver

Ken
