Thanks a lot, been ripped off again. At todays prices, I could probably get my money back if I weighed the brass in.Too bloody sentimental by half. That will teach me! At least it keeps good time.
Regards Bill

Might have known with a battery in, you got cond it will go with your mickey mouse alarm clock Regards Ken.

Kenny, the best Atki I ever had was 684 MPT, Gimme the history of it, I’m in a sentimental mood. You haven’t got a photo by any chance, have you?

Any one remember Kevin Hoban,I worked with him at Forth and Stillers,i think he was at Dents in the 60s,Vic

Hi i knew Kevin Hoban at Dents he left in 1961, he lived in Trimdon drove a MkV Jag. He was driving a 4 wheel ERF on local, before that he had a 4 wheel Atki van on distance. One day he was loaded for Rosyth so he put the motor on the ferry to save him going round Kincardine. (no Forth road bridge then) When John Henry saw his expence sheet he said whats this old son, i pay you for driving it not sailing it. Regards Ken

Hi Folks, now for some old stuff. Here is a photo of a 1946 Atkinson six legger, restored almost single handedly by Roger Maughan. It came as an engine and chassis. Roger re-built the cab by making the frame from solid pieces of Ash.I can’t remember what engine it had, I know it was a Gardiner but I don’t know which one. Kenny Johnson might know. It was a stange one to drive as the throttle pedal was in the middle. Barry Jackson and I took it to a few rallies and won a few trophies with it.
Alan, how about Dave Collier,Terry Brewster, Gorgeous George and his Brother in law, and another youth that Fatty used to try to send up to Melinate after 5 o’clock but he would never go.
Old Bill
P.S Here is a photo of the man himself at Beamish

Another picture of the 1946 Atkinson Six Legger restored by Roger Maughan, Dents Manager

Forget the six legger, concentrate on the handsome chap stood next to it.
Kenny, still waiting for an answer about 684 MPT.

One saturday Taffy left 617BPT at the Red House, loaded with Dixel for that area. On Monday morning the motor was missing.Dispite a police search etc it was not found, until the next cafe down the road, The Hilltop phoned Dents on Wedesday as to why the motor had been parked there for 4 days, every thing was intacked.
Ken

Ha Ha, nice one Ken, probably one of Dents drivers that moved it, unless who evers truck it was, was ■■■■■■ and forgot where he had left it. Made me laugh on a right miserable day.

It didn’t take much to nick them back then as those Atkis did not have Ignition keys, and the door handle screws were on the outside of the door.

Just a guess, but could that Atki be parked at that cafe at the entrance to the northbound Blackwall Tunnel?
I can’t remember its name but the location looks familiar. regards kevmac47.

Hi John the wrecker was a ex army AEC Matador personel carrier, sill had sand in the cab from the western desert. It had a 7.7 engine 4 speed box and a 4 speed low box and 4wd. 28mph top speed. 4 arms to turn the steering, and 2 to change gear with. But it had a good power winch that came out either front or back. George Gittins and me built it and Harry the joiner(Evans) made the body.I allways remember going down the A1 one night in thick fog and my foot was easing off the throttle but the trunkers were coming past and blowing me off the road but i didn’t have the speed to get onto there tail lamps, i wonderd what they could see that i couldn’t.
Regards Ken

Went down to Petfoods one day, Anti Claughan had broken down with 697EUP (or he just wanted a shift off).Following him home in the dark half asleep 45mph on dipped sidelamps, a big white cloud of snow came at me,i nearly sh.t myself.Anti had shredded a full newspaper up and threw it out the window.
