As I am on agencies, and each time I get into a different truck, there is no defect book. I did some Saturday work and Transport desk personnel are off weekends. In such situations,I am inclined to carry my own booklet. Even if Transport staff are in,I shouldn’t have to go back into transport to ask for, trying to keep my time minimal as possible in the yard, having already spent so much time checking the load with the delivery notes tally up,and then the strapping up,as drivers have been fined, apparently
Are you wanting a defect book for the purposes of actually listing defects, or as more a way to show that you’ve done your checks to cover yourself in the event of a pull from the authorities? Nothing at all wrong with that by the way.
There is an app you can download called R2C or something similar ( I’m sure someone will provide the information) that is ideal for that scenario. You can do daily checks on whichever vehicles you drive and the app will store them. I’m not sure how you’ll stand with individual companies on actually getting any defects attended to, but you have certainly covered your botty from DVSA etc.
both reasons
thanks for the heads up
Loads of apps to show a walk round has been done
When you collect the keys why not ask for a defect book? If you have to waste time, you can show you’ve tried
Loads of apps, and suggest always email a copy to the boss
More importantly is to know how to report and record a defect when you find them.
On balance, no harm in carrying a generic defect book
Some morons at our place are using our new app thing. Funny in the yard when I get back in the morning, watching them take pictures of the same vehicle each day
I can fuel up, drop the trailer, park the unit, hand in paperwork and be out the door and they’re still p issing about. Not for me but each to their own. Check sheets and defect sheets and more importantly time sheets are all i need.
Good sense to carry your own though. Takes no room in your bag
It is a requirement from the transport desk to take the photos from one particular company, even inside the cab. I perceive you have to do the same
Yeah different places, different procedures. We’re supposed to with the new app but I don’t use it.
