Dedicated to Fodens. Paccar's biggest mistake. R.I.P!

foden I had new in on August 1st 2002.

Foden 450 C12 Cat

Tilcon one of Fodens biggest customers in their day.

I remember a big Foden operator from Thurmaston, green bulkers mostley S80s, single drive hub reduction axles , did a lot of coke, they had a great depot near the testing station, I looked at a Foden there once that was for sale, it belonged to an owner driver who did work for them , his name was Whittle Transport, Im sure the firms name was Walker, the man himself showed us round the workshop, fantastic set up, his son at that time was serving his time at Gardners at Patticroft as they had a lot of their engines, any photos about ? Regards Larry

Hi Larry.
Is this who you mean ? I remember them as you say usually see them well loaded with foundry coke.Don’t know when they finished but here’s a 91/92 J reg.I can’t remember where or when I took these but seem to think it was at Charnwood Trucks,Shepshed but I can’t be sure.Think it was for sale if I remember correctly. If this isn’t the firm just one for thread. Regards Mike.

Speaking to my Dad today this old girl would pull the side of a house down. Not many will know the roads around Monmouthshire/Herefordshire.Maybe Dave and one or two from Hereford. They would load her with a Waggon of stone(10 Tonnes approx) and pull up Cupid`s Hill from Kenchurch to Grosmont no problem. It is very steep.

Yes thats them, they used to get up the North East quite often, and load at Monkton Coke works. The Foden we went to look at was Whittle Transport, His brother also had an 8 wheeler S39 Foden, he also raced stock cars F1. Nuneaton I think was where he was based, Regards Larry

I think that Mick Whittle was based at Hinckley Larry, he owned a S21 generator truck with a stroker in it and at one time it lived in a lockup garage opposite the Doctors Surgery in Matlock! Great sound to hear when I was out shopping.

Pete.

Yes thats him Mick Whittle, we also looked at the S39, he had for sale, Happy Days Larry.
