…even Carters had them on containers at one time!!
I’ve just been reading an interesting article on Fodens by the venerable L.J.K Setright, who used to write about trucks as well as cars.

What publication was the article by L.J.K. in chorcheela? I am an avid fan of his writings and haven’t come across that one. More info please.

‘Long Lane With Turnings’ is the book (ISBN-10: 1862078726).
He reveals that he had a secondary interest in HGV’s and used to drive and test them for various publications of the day. He refers to the fact that he managed a ‘6-wheel drift’ in a Leyland artic around the company’s test track in Lancashire!!! There’s also a piece about the quality of engineering of British trucks in general, and Fodens in patricular, in which he bemoans said state, and (rightly as it turns out) predicts the demise of the British truck industry in the face of superior foreign competition.
Which I suppose brings us back to the point of this thread!!

Next time I’m on the docks I’ll have a proper snoop around .There was a big pile of scrap next to this, so it might contain the remains of some of the other trucks…
