Death row again

Yet again on I-95 in CT on the southbound side opposite the scales near exit 2 this morning there was another nasty wreck. All those trucks that park there to sleep even though there are no parking signs all along that bit beyond the shoulder. One very lucky tanker driver with na LPG tanker hooked to his truck sleeping was hit from befind by a mini van that was completely destroyed, all ocupants very dead, I imagine the driver fell alseep at the wheel and drifted on to the shoulder. This means there will be a real purge on drivers parking on that land beyond the shoulder now. I am willing to bet that tanker driver get it for sleeping there

Could get a prison sentence for that!

More of this to come as Americans/Canadians are shackled to the rules with their elogs and cant use common sense to find a safe place. People will panic and park in inappropriate places because they are scared of getting done for going over their time. It happens all the time in the UK where parking oppertunities are only a few minutes apart, how bad will it be in America where parking oppertunities can be 60 miles apart. ■■■■■■■■■■■■ and Masshole are horrendous for parking at the best of times, but past 7 or so in the evening you’ve got little chance of getting a parking place on the 95 in CT, hence why they all park on that dirt ground by the hard shoulder. I’ve been tempted a few times but always gone over my time and just gone to NJ and adjusted the book accordingly. If you’re coming down from Canada/Maine you either have to stop at Kittery in Maine which means you’ll lose 3 to 4 hours of driving or risk not getting parked and have to go over your time.
Thank God that I’m no longer on Eastern seaboard reefer work!

This spot in particular is notorious for trucks parking along there because there is a wide band of wastland beyond the shoulder and drivers think it safe, it’s not !
The only answer with elogs is to know how long it is to the next parking area and if it’s not in range of your time and you have to park with an hour left then do so, I usually do. I do however find that I can’t on some occasions, last weds for instance I ran 20 minutes over my time because I just couldn’t fand anywhere safe to park, I remained logged on driving duty and made an entry in the ‘remarks’ section … covered so long as it’s not a refular occurence.

Like I say though, once you drive past Kittery at the bottom of Maine, theres pretty much nothing until you get to NJ apart from those few service areas on death row, which fill up very quickly, so the only option is to park up with 4 hours driving to spare, which isn’t realistic by any stretch of the imagination, not when getting paid by the mile, or even by the hour for that matter.
