Daytime running light on tractor units

My new Volvo FH t/unit has daytime running light on, but when running this also put all the side and rear marker lights on the trailer, thus silencing the talking reverse alarm on the trailers, causing problems when delivering to customers who require trailer alarms to be active when reversing.

I was wondering if all tractor unit makes with daytime running lights also put the trailer side lights on at the same time? I was under the impression that daytime running lights are just fitted to the front? My cars running lights don’t put the rear light on,

I can get the daytime running light turned off, but I’m not sure if this would be legal or not.

Ideas anyone?

So why does the alarm not work with the trailer lights on?
What happened previously if a customer requires an alarm to sound but its dark, did you have to reverse with the lights off?

If its the same unit/trailer you use why not get the "night silent " wire wired up to the fog lights. Then it doesent matter if your side lights are on or off the alarm will
work.

Im pretty sure if you turn the headlight switch all the way to the left so the side markers are off, the DRL’s will be on at max brightness. when you knock it over one and sidelights come on it runs them at a reduced brightness.
This is how it has been on every FH that i have seen come through our workshop (maybe, im at home now) I don’t think you can switch them off fully at all, unless someone messed with the parameters for the lights.

MAN’s DRL’s don’t put the sidelights on, and they are easily turned off via the dash menu if you wish, no need for a dealer visit.

I’ve just got an new FH & the side lights are on constant. Can’t turn them off at all. Only time they are off is when the engine isn’t running.

Thanks for the replies guys, interesting that Volvo have the side lights on with the drl’s but not the MAN.
