gazzer:
The days of fun n frolics have gone Mr. 141. London-Portugal-Spain-Sweden-Denmark-UK-London-Belgium-Italy-Germany-Italy-London…he wouldnt like it would he TIR TONE? We had some fun.
We did indeed Gazza…well mostly anyway.
Although at the time when i finished with Davies in 1999 it was the norm to do 3 legged trip trips ie.
UK to Spain or Portugal then re-load to Italy or Greece then back to UK or visa versa depending on the different fruit / veg. seasons,
i remember one particular trip in the early fridge days when subbing for Mark Viner at Chingfords.
Loaded hanging beef from Tadworth nr. Reigate for Rungis and Brest…Re-loaded Cauliflower from St.Jean de Pol in Brittany for Munich.
I then loaded hanging Pork from Deventer in Holland for Madrid.
I then went south to Murcia to load fruit, but the weather had been bad and nothing was picked, so after a day or two i eventually loaded
roof tiles yes roof tiles in a fridge to somewhere near St. Tropez.
From there i loaded Tomatoes out of Marseilles docks for 2 drops in Germany ( cant remember excactly where )
I then loaded Pineapples from Antwerp docks for the UK, shipping into Dover where i had a full turn out.
Made proper use of the blue book back then.
I know it was,nt anything special compared to the long distance journeys of the guys going East, but hey i was happy doing my little bit.
I did enjoy working out of Woolwich with Mark. Never a dull moment and the only time my bank account was regularly in the black. Home was occasionally in Romsey. I dont know why I didnt take many photos, I usually did. The ■■■■■, Frankie Hurren a couple of names I remember from Thames Road. Aye full use of the Blue book on that job.

All great here mate, lonnnnnnngggggg time as you say amigo mio.
Chip…what can I say mate? he knows he just wont admit it! Although it was Reader that helped me to drink a case of port 1 sunday at Castets, though it may have been Kwoz who gave him the idea,or at least trained him to do so,so you see it still comes back to the infamous Kwoz.
