I,m sure there,s quite a lot you wont have heard about Buzzer.
I remember once, it was a while after my bereavement and i had just started to do a bit of driving again
for you.
I had my youngest Matty with me and we shipped out to do a Saturday changeover with one of the drivers at
a restaurant on the N6 Sth. of Fontainebleau.
I met the driver, and we were dropping the trailers at the rear car park which was on a bit of a slope.
Now for some strange reason he chose to uncouple his air lines and suzies before winding the legs down.
Anyway he climbed onto the back of the unit and before he uncoupled anything the whole outfit rolled back
down a small embankment and into a ploughed field.
The plonker had forgotten to apply the handbrake on the unit.
Very fortunately there was no damage done to either the unit or trailer.
We tried getting it back onto the tarmac with a bit of help from a local farmer in his tractor without successā¦we only
had rope which just snapped.
I went drive-about in my unit and returned about an hour later with some chains borrowed from a friendly French haulier.
By this time our farmer had disappeared so i attached the linked chains onto my front towing pin, put it into reverse and
gained enough momentum for the outfit to drive back onto the tarmac, much to mine and the said drivers immense relief.
After returning the chains and supping a few bevvies i was on my way again and a relieved unnamed Davies driver headed south.
Now the whole episode cost a few hours but because i was shipping back to Calais rather than Le Havre, i dont recall
you being any the wiser Buzzer.
Yeh maybe Buzzer.
I was,nt trying to deceive you or anything like that, but as i said there was no damage
caused and the driver was embarrassed about it and worried for his job.
We all make /made mistakes to some degree, some worse than others aye.

Buzzer & Horry; I was having a meal with Smiffy & partner last night and we were reminiscing on a lot of times, we tried hard to come up with name of a driver that worked for you at some time but just cant remember what he was called. When he left you he went to work for a Londoner (we think) driving a red Scania 143 spots on the roof. He caused a big problem in La Jonquera where Wee Joc got a hiding from some bar owners,Smiffy offered to swap trailers with him cause he was in a bad state. Just wondered if you can recall what he was called. Thanks.BVā¦
Hi BV, jock worked for me and i didānt here about that little fracas, you buggers were so secretive in the old days, cant imagine wee Jock gettin in to trouble though.
I cannot recall a problem down there but then I was only in the yard in those days. The red Scania makes me want to say it was a bloke known as āSumoā. If it was him and like I say not sure if it is, he used to work for Peter Roff and was from the Luton area, little bloke also was Scottish. He was known for working wherever there was a top spec motor available. TTFN
PS when I do get round to doing a domesday book on this place, Jock will have a chapter all to himself. Sheep in Edinburgh, Cats in Cherbourg spring to mindā¦
I remember the trip with Wee Jock and the cat, it started when he was waiting to ship back home from Cherbourg and he rang the office to inform me some one had noticed meowing sound coming from the trailer. Even though it was a frigo it was not running because the load from Portugal i think it was entailed machinery of some sort bound for the west country. We instructed Jock to stay stum on the subject and at the delivery point we informed the staff, who in turn got the RSPCA involved who turned up with nets and containers to capture what ever was inside which turned out to be a ferrel cat. After about two hours they did capture the said animal by which time all the staff of the place said they wanted to chip in to save the little blighter but i think he ended up going by the way of the big needle which was best for all concerned, its just a pity they didānt jab Wee Jock while they were at it.Another " Mary Hopkin " moment boys.
ā In the yard today ā seriesā¦Keep them coming please Buzzer.
I know it is a place of business, but for us enthusiasts, it would be great if you could persuade the boys to line all the trucks up for an updated photo when they are all next at the depot.
Horry; Thats the man Sumo,Thanks for that it was bugging us all night,Smiffy said that your dad told him not to changr trailers cos it was self inflicted, but as I belive it it twas Sumos doin that caused the problemā¦
Tir T; Yes matey hes well and sends his regards to all,Got some photos off him to post laterā¦
Dont know if any of you guys knew John Wyiles or not,Owner driver from Christchurch. He sadly past away Sat. night,One of the roads great characteres,Hes gonna be sadly missedā¦RIP Jonnie W

Blimey Buzzer and horry, two motors and 3 or 4 trailers in the yard at the same time, yer must be going
soft these days giving drivers time off. ā¦only joking.
I see Jock, several times a day in the dock, toot toot, flash flash! I took a foto of him in the Scania shunter and he is not visible! Iāll post it when I get back and maybe I will have another of him, just one.
