Hi guys, I’m currently using a TomTom 6200 with live traffic
I’ve received an email from TomTom telling me that the Sim connection for the live traffic will soon stop working and I will need to connect via blue tooth to my phone to receive live traffic
My question is, does anyone know how much phone data this will use?
I currently drive for about 5-6 hours a day and wondered if anyone could give me a guesstimate .
Thanks Duncan
Mines connected via Bluetooth. Your question prompted me to check this months data usage. As far as I can see Bluetooth uses zero data! I’m open to correction of course but there’s nothing in my data usage for TomTom
I use Google Maps and Waze. It’s maybe 10-20MB of data for a full shift. And that’s doing the full mapping, working out routing etc, not just live traffic.
You will use your mobile data on bluetooth if you’re using traffic with your Tomtom tethered to your mobile phone and the Tomtom connects with their servers for live traffic data.
I have my go expert tethered with hot spot etc but haven’t noticed any data drain? Must use a bit but I never run out by the end of the month.
I don’t think the tomtom uses much data, it does feel like my phone battery gets drained a bit quicker than usual.
As a side note, I find if you tether by WiFi instead of Bluetooth, it gets a larger area of traffic info, potentially covering you for more of the journey when you initially plot a route.
